Watched the game last night and seeing their fans at the end of the game took me back to our own wee special moment in 2016. That’s what supporting your team through thick and thin is all about. I’ve always liked West Ham and have always thought we had a similar outlook, like to play with a certain panache, haven’t won much over the years, both have historically had a tasty element in the support (I think Cass Pennant’s book was the first one of that ilk that I read) and of course a certain Mr Irvine W also has a soft spot for them. So I’m making it official, they are my number two team. Anyone else feel the same ?

No really soft spot but I was glad to see them win. It got me thinking them along with quite a few other ‘big clubs’ in England have been starved of trophies for a very long time and that is only getting worse as time goes on. Newcastle spring to mind although you’d think it won’t be long until they win something

I went to see them back in the new Premiership the year Blackburn won - carried by Shearer that day (and others) along with a Hammers Cotán and into the Anne Bolyne? Fun I seeing 4 generations of the of a family all with the same skin head haircut ;)

Of all the London teams - for the reasons you mentioned - felt the one most akin to the Hibs.

cracking sense of humour too - one kid (about 10) turns to his made “your mum is so old she owes Jesus a tenner!” :?

that said I was not routing for them last night. Esp after they struck the player on the head.

No, don’t like them, they have a very nasty element to their fans. Lump them together with Millwall. Wouldn’t recommend going anywhere near a group of their fans ‘on the piss’ wearing your Hibs colours.

Aye, when they won the FA Cup as a 2nd division team I thought they'll do for me. Not a feat that is ever likely to be repeated. Remember the tv ban the season that Cottee and Mcavennie were banging the goals in, never witnessed any of it, bugger! 😥

Growing up in London with Hibs parents meant I could have chosen any team to be my #2 (and have something to talk about in school).

West Ham became my team many years ago and I'm glad they did.

Wasn’t bothered either way tbh just wanted entertained as a neutral

The behaviour of the West Ham fans left a lot to be desired and should not be compared in any way to Hibs fans

The Fiorentina Captain took a dull one as he was hit by what looked like four plastic pint glasses in one drawing blood and further disrupting the flow of the game

Fiorentina should demand that the trophy is handed over to them in the interest of good sportsmanship or at the very least be given the opportunity of a replay especially as I was waiting on the West Ham goalkeeper to make one save in the first half which he didn’t could have played in his carpet slippers 😀

Started following the Hammers when I moved to London in the 80's, went home and away to many games and the fans were fantastic, never stopped singing the whole game,'Billy Bonds Claret and Blue Army', never seen any trouble, although 'The Chicken Run' could get a but feisty. Some of my best days watching football, can't compare to watching The Hibees though. Delighted they have won a trophy, never thought I would see it much like us and the Scottish Cup.

On view across Europe if not the world why on earth would anyone think this was "smart" behaviour. Czech beer a bit too strong for them I guess.

I was in Stratford this evening as they set up the stage to welcome the team at the town hall. Very busy with fans enjoying their big moment. Nice to see.

No affinity to West Ham or any other club whatsoever. I'm Hibs. Nice their fans got their moment in the sun but couldn't really care to be honest. Watched the game and thought their opponents were robbed.

One of those where I’d class them as a “proper club” without really knowing what that means!

Got that kind of feel to them anyway and its support base will largely be from London vicinity.

Probably seen more West Ham matches down here than any other and live in a predominantly Hammers town. My daughter is now West Ham first and Hibs second (I tried!). Enjoyed last night and delighted for my mates but wouldn’t call myself a fan.

I saw BBC Sport website asking for fans to text in their fave cup winning experiences. All 3 published were Hibs 2016!

Lost all interest in west ham when they moved from Upton Park to that new athletics stadium there old ground was great old style football Stadium all they had to do was do it up like other teams have done but no they sell it for big money and move into a council run big Space with no atmosphere and to far from the pitch not a patch on Upton Park or the boleyn ground whatever you want to call it so no I lost all interest in west ham after the move.

They'll have a higher budget than Fiorentina but won't be anything like 10 times higher.

Average salary at West Ham is probably 50/60k, probably about half that at Fiorentina.

They have players earning a lot lot more than that. Know he is an exception (no idea why really) but they apparently offered Rice £200k per week to resign for them TWO YEARS AGO.

They will have some guys on more, but they'll also have guys on less. Id be surprised if any player at West Ham is on more than £100,000 a week.

Fiorentina's record signing is 24.5m euros.

West ham made three signings more than that in the summer. Maybe 10x the budget is an exaggeration, but, the team with the much bigger budget won.

Also, no chance a player like Pacqueta is only on 50K a week.

Don't have any connection with West Ham but was grinning watching Moyes celebrating.

It took me back to our celebration too. Looked like a guy that had waited all his life and career for that moment and it all came spilling out, like it took him back to being a boy. Was brilliant :aok:

Felt the same for Moyes. Seems like a decent guy and you could see how much it meant to him.

His dad was there too who's in his mid 80s I believe, so that would have been a special moment for them.

Prefer them to a few other London-based clubs but probably would have just preferred fiorentina winning last night without being too fussed.

Not sure anyone would have been on here praising and comparing their fans if the result had gone differently in Portugal.

How many West Ham fans or fans of other English teams start threads about having Hibs as their "2nd team" and inventing spurious reasons as to how similar other clubs are.

They just don't as English people have self confidence and self respect and really don't go around looking for 2nd teams to support as they don't need to try to piggyback on other countries success.

Its yet another reason why English football supporters have such a deep and passionate following for their teams and an admirable depth of knowledge about football equaled only by the Germans.
