Unfortunately, i wasent able to get a ticket for the Hearts away game.
But his commentary, on Hibs Tv, is by far the best analysis of a game, i’ve heard.
I don’t understand why he’s not on sky, as a netrual, he’s certainly better than Kris Boyd.
He’s also a really nice guy, he goes to musselburgh races, and would always have a chat.

Big fan of Archie (where did that come from btw?) and do like him best on HibsTV, he's not shy of an opinion and he doesn't half lay into just about everyone :greengrin

He has great insight but he needs to tone it down. I was really close to muting the TV because of him. I couldn't concentrate on the game because he was becoming irritating with the constant loud and excitable talking. Sometimes less is more. Poor Cliff couldn't get a word in most of the time.

Still, better insight than the likes of Michael Owen ("the pitch tends to get wet when it rains") and multiple others who don't know the rules ("the linesman was ridiculously late in putting his flag up" - well yes because that's what he's meant to do for VAR).

100% this. We muted it second half, just constant talking from Lovell! :blah: It's a shame as his insight and analysis is good, he's just a bit OTT.

This came from a Reading fans forum before he came to us :greengrin

Stuart 'Archie' Lovell

Turned up for day 1 of training at Reading, nothing went his way, coach called him over and told him that the worst player he ever saw was a lad named Archie and that he must be Archie. Not only did the nickname stick, but when Lovell left Reading to join Hibs he thought he'd left the nickname behind but turns out the coach had rang through to his new club and given them the heads up! https://hobnob.royals.org/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Big fan of Archie (where did that come from btw?)

From what I remember the story was an old kitman / groundsman at Reading gave him the nickname, as there'd been an Archie Lovell played for them back in the day who was the worst player he'd ever seen.

Always been impressed by Lovell on the telly, comes across as measured with a good understanding of the game.

Has anyone posted up where the name comes from yet? 🤔😊

He's by far the best commentator on HibsTv. But agree, needs to talk less. Very insightful and calls it how he sees it. There was one match where JDH was getting it right from him. Sure he'll get picked up for a bigger gig soon.

He doesn't sound Aussie at all tho

Everything he said made sense. Unfortunately we kept doing the same stupid things so Archie kept repeating himself, perhaps should have just shook his head but he would have been in serious danger of his head falling off.
He was extremely frustrated as I'm sure most of us where, the only difference was he could be clearly heard.
Liked him since he took me home from the Hibs Club when he saw me struggling up the lane with my leg in plaster.

A couple of the ‘summarisers’, when it comes to commentary need to remember that..’less is more’.

Didn't find it irritating at all. Thought he was bang on with all of his analysis/comments and always good to get commentators saying it as it is. Only complaint is that he should have been pitch-side giving those instructions.

Always liked him since he predicted 3-2 at a hospitality even I was at - won a tidy sum with that bet :greengrin

I didn't think he was that great tbh

I think the standard of commentary of HibsTv is generally woeful, saying that, Joelle is normally good as co-commentator.

The amount of times Cliff says "*player name* does well" as soon as the player touches the ball and for the ball to end up in the stand is ridiculous.

He maybe did say too much but it sounded like proper passion to me.

Everything he said you could see, and he wasn't getting involved in the normal banal banter Cliff has with other co-commentators. He also wasn't talking in boring non-insightful cliches.

I've often felt like turning the sound down on hibs.tv but this definitely wasn't one of those times.

"That a wonderful ball from Jake Doyle Hays....juuuust too much on it"...as it sails into the stands!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Agree re Analysis But he overtalked
He was at times over critical and it’s not like he was a world class player He was looking for perfection at times
But Youan had one of those games where he did very little so come in for a lot of stick

I always liked Lovell as a player and thought we let him go too soon. He’s always impressed me in his media appearances since he retired from playing, and I thought his co-commentary was excellent on Saturday.

Met him on a night out once, back when he played for us and we were in the First Division. Was a lovely guy and really happy to chat.

Joelle…really? She is absolutely awful. Talks in cliches and offers next to no analysis.

Yes Lovell is quite insightful at times, a novelty to hear a different voice

Every time the opposition score does Cliff say “and it’s in the back of the net”? I was almost ready to put my foot through the telly if I heard it again earlier in the season!

“Feel free to get yourself something stronger!”

I know several people who have met him, they all say he's a really nice bloke. TBH I was never much of a fan of him as a player, for me he was quite limited, not a bad player but nothing special. that's just my opinion though.

He played in a game of 7s I was in last year. He was on the other team and his team got grannied. First time I’ve seen that at 5s/7s before and my claim to fame.

Despite the scoreline was interesting seeing his touch, strength, body position etc which even at his age was a different level.

For me the problem with SL when he played was that he played in a really good team, I must confess though that I never really appreciated him until after he left, I realized he could have still been doing a job for us when our team deteriorated and he was doing a decent job at Livi, as for his commentary I have always thought of him as quite insightful with a good analysis of the game.

Lovell talks a lot of sense.

He has pointed out in the past that 'I just don't know what Henderson offers' and has been honest with his criticism of McKirdy.

These two have had plenty of opportunities but will prove difficult to move on and get off the wage bill.

I thought he kept saying same stuff over and over. Basically all the tactics were wrong and he was right. I turned volume down as it was monotonous. Hibs TV needs a a couple of new signings in the summer.
