Thought he was exceptional tonight. I feared the worst when Ryan Porteous left but this young man has been very very good to come in from the cold and play so well. A brilliant recovery from a difficult day at Tynie. He has it all including great focus and a cool temperament.

I wonder what he would cost to keep. He’s a first pick for us unquestionably.

Surely it’s within the realms of possibility to get him back again next season on loan again?

What a coup it would be to get him again next season.

No way we can buy him.
He’s improved almost every game he’s played and again tonight.
He’s got all the qualities to go far in the game that’s for sure.

Yep, he's been brilliant for a while now. Need to find some way of keeping him.

Man Utd will be monitoring him another year's loan for a 20 year old is better than him playing u23 football in England. Paul Hanlon looks comfortable playing alongside him

I think he would be more than happy to return next season.

Buying him isn't happening. I doubt he will ever play for Man Utd but they will have interest from Championship sides that will pay more in transfer fees and wages than we will.
I'd love to see him back next season but I can't even say that. EPL teams have a pathway for loans and we are one step on that path, he's excelled here so United will want to move him onto the next step. That will be Championship down south.

He has a contract with Man u till 2025 so clearly they rate him

Dundee Utd asked the question, and ended up signing Dylan Levitt from Man Utd after a good loan spell. I'd hope at the very least we ask them the same question about Will Fish.

I agree but it’s quite frustrating as I think we have managed his loan extremely well. Something LJ deserves enormous credit for that and for ignoring idiots like me that were accusing Fish of never seeing a football before, I thought he was hopeless.
In his last loan, he made one mistake for Stockport and got binned. Up here we let him settle in before giving him game time, when he made a mistake in his first game we backed him, was poor in his second game we still backed him and he’s never looked back since. He’s been excellent.
If he was at another club down south, there’s every chance he’d have been dropped early doors, feels like we should be rewarded in some way for how we’ve managed his spell here. If not with Fish coming back, hopefully they’ll see us as a good option for other good players to come to.

Dylan Levitt was also much more highly regarded when Dundee United signed him permanently. Levitt was a full international who had played at Euro 2020 and played for Man Utd in Europe.

Was he not out of contract the following summer though? Realistically if they weren’t going to get a fee for him, there was no harm in them being agreeable to a deal with Dundee Utd.
They’ll be looking at Fish as a million pound + asset, I don’t think Levitt was ever that.

We need to find the right bait to hook him in on loan for another season. We don't want to be trawling the leagues looking for a replacement. There is definitely not more fish in the sea.

An upgrade on Porteous. Another fantastic find by Ian Gordon and the team.

amazing how he has performed since his Tynecastle horror show
great strength of character to come through that when pretty much everyone was writing him off as total garbage
Id be delighted if we can sign him up

Also shows how hard it is to be chucked in for such an important game out of the blue and the importance of having a run of games.
That’s one of the main reasons I feel like I can’t completely write McKirdy off yet

Excellent player. Seems to be enjoying himself here.

I disagree that he's no chance of ever playing for Man United. Not in the short term but taking into account how little first team experience he has and that he's just turned 20 and yet he still looks an accomplished pro, I think he has every chance of making it at that level. Hopefully we can get him on loan again next season, he's a proper player.

The Tynecastle debacle wasn't really his fault as he was played out of position. Great player.

He's highly rated at Old Trafford. That doesn't always translate into making it, but they have hopes.
I would be surprised if he's at Hibs next year. I think he'll get a championship club on loan.

Let's not re-write the past just because he's done well since then. He made a massive arse of it. Doesn't matter who is playing what position, he was at fault.
I'm hopeful if we don't get him on a permanent that we get him back on loan until at least January. Maybe a season long loan with option for MUFC to recall him.

I’d be cautious of those types of deals after how arsenal had us and Ross county over the barrel with Harry Clarke, I’d love fish back next year but if we’re not able to bank on him for the season I’d rather we got someone we could hate to be In a good position next year and lose a big part of the defence cause Man U decide to test him at some struggling championship outfit

I would have loved to have seen him play a good bit longer
I think any loan is a risk whether the player settles in the city, gets injured or doesnt improve the team, this time around in Fish and CJ we seem to have benefited, as have those two and their parent clubs
Youan is another to add to that list and Myko has talent too

I think it'd be a bigger risk going for someone guaranteed for a season that we don't know if they'll fit in or not rather than Fish, who's tried and test and we know how good he is, but might get recalled in January. Plus, I'd expect a large proportion of EPL loan deals would have a recall clause but we often don't know about them until a player is actually recalled, so there's a fair chance there'd be a drop in quality to get an assurance of a full season.
