Just received this email from Hibs. Great news!:

We are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Élie Youan from Swiss club, FC St. Gallen! The transfer has been completed after we triggered the option to buy clause in his loan agreement, with the 24-year-old putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with Hibs. The terms of the transfer will remain undisclosed.

If we are going to spend north of half a million then doing it on a player has has already produced performances with us, who we can judge not just potential but the way he has fitted in and conducted himself makes a lot of sense. If I had seen him play for Hearts of Aberdeen and produce what he has produced this season I would have seen it as a bigger risk but we know far more having seen him train and watched the way he progressed after being coached. He has a great chance to go a long way and there have been plenty signs that there has been progress both in terms of decision making and work rate. There is still a long way to go for both though and it will be interesting to see how far he goes and whether we will view it as a successful investment in 2 or 3 years

If it was financially feasible this was a no brainer, he is still raw but its clear to see there's a top player in there. Wouldn't surprise me if we make a nice profit on him in years to come.

In hindsight should we not have seen this a while back? Just looking at the photos on his Ig, there was one of him at the main entrance to the west going in with sunglasses on etc. Although he put 'monday' as the caption, why would he have been at ER unless it was to meet the big wigs to sign?

A solid bit of business.

It will be interesting to see if he can maintain the rate of progress he has shown in recent months. Think back to Ibrox in December and he was close to the worst player on the park and I think a few of us were starting to lose patience with him. Fast forward to Saturday and I thought he was far from his best but was still a decent shout for MOTM, he's come on at a frightening rate.

If he can even get close to maintaining that he won't be here in 18 months but we'll have had the benefit of him for that time and will be a hell of a lot richer for it.

Very good young player who will only get better now that he's settled in at Hibs and will have Boyle on the opposite flank which will give him more room.

And when the opposition switch to deal with Youann, then it'll be Boyle who benefits.

Looks like any questions about the Gordons' commitment to Hibs have been answered as well.

They could spend 5 million on someone and there's folk in the Hibs support who would question their commitment.

It will be interesting to see the accounts to understand whether the Gordon’s have bought him or whether Hibs have bought him.

By all accounts most of our transactions under them have been us using more of the money we generate/some loans they have secured.

Maybe they know we're getting the City Football Group riches soon so don't mind spending a bit more before shooting off.

Hoping that the Gordon family’s underwriting of this fee is confirmation that they will be around for a while.

Ian Gordon got a fair bit of stick because he nominally headed up the recruitment department, but the likelihood is that he will end up being the future chairman/owner

After this signing I’m confident we are in good hands.

Have the Gordon family injected new funds into the club or something?

If not, then is it not season ticket money along with any other normal income that has been used to fund this?

My guess is that they have covered the first instalment of the Youan fee, which will be repaid once the ST money, and the first instalment of any fee for Nisbet, kick in.

Not sure how accurate it is, but he's listed as the club's owner on Wikipedia.

When Malcolm McPherson was appointed,in his remarks/thanks for the position , he referred to "Kit and the Gordon family"

Wiki is changeable !!:greengrin
It now says owners are Kit and Ian Gordon .
Both of course, are members of the board.

I think most supporters are happy enough to say/accept that the Gordon family are the current owners/custodians of Hibernian Football Club.

Would like to see a highlights reel of some of Élie‘s play today. Some of his close control was breathtaking.

Today was just more evidence of what a sound investment this should turn out to be. Really settled into the Scottish game now and the thought of him pushing on more and improving is very exciting for next season.

He used his strength to turn and spin off his man a couple of times today.

It was obvious they were terrified of him too the way they doubled up on him, and I noticed he delivered the ball quicker than normal without the need to beat his man three times or more…

3 games left, hope he keeps his best ‘til last.

I think what we need to remember is that whilst he can be frustrating, most teams are terrified of him.

He’s rapid, direct and just a bit awkward in how he plays.

He’s one of those players where you genuinely can’t tell if he’ll cut in or go to the byline.

Surprised he hasn't been put on penalties yet. He is in my opinion the most accurate shot we have at the moment, forcing the goalkeeper to work, even from less than ideal shooting angles, where as Nisbet appears to be lacking a bit of confidence and conviction. It's hard to tell if the halt from his move due to injury is still playing on his mind or not. But he hasn't looked 100% since coming back in.

I couldn't disagree more on Nisbet. He has been very good since coming in. He is still a very good finisher but the rest of his game is much improved. Youan seems to be a confident lad and that is what is needed for pens so no reason why he shouldn't get a shot next.

His last goal was a month ago against Hearts. His job is to be clinical more than anything else and he just hasn't looked all that confident in front of goal for me. I don't put that down to a lack of effort on his part though. He works his socks off every game. He appears frustrated though and perhaps he's trying a little too hard in front of goal when he just needs a bit more composure.

If you aren't confident you aren't trying to bend one in to the far corner with the outside of the boot from 18 yards, all strikers go through periods of not scoring

Only been 3 games since his last goal. Plenty strikers go a lot longer than that without scoring.

In those 3 games, didn’t think he was great against St J but was excellent against St Mirren and decent enough yesterday, penalty aside

If he keeps improving as he is I can see a call up in either Jan 2024 or 2025.
