Hi Ren....

This video has been all over YouTube the last few months. Read the comments on his page to get the back story but watch the vid first.

Watch it with an open mind, then I'd recommend watching some reaction vids from suicide survivors and psychologists.

Be good to hear people's thoughts on it....

Shared this in the Dug Out a few weeks ago as I was utterly blown away by it when I heard it.

Still hits hard now, even after what must be approaching 100 odd listens.

I have numerous interpretations of it - imposter syndrome, bipolar disorder, learning to be OK with your light and dark...all of them resonate with my own mental health challenges.

I'm not a massive fan of his other material, but this song packs one hell of a punch.

I have been down the Ren rabbithole for some time now, in fact since Sylar posted it in the dug out a while back. His whole back catalogue is excellent and his new video was released last week and it brilliant, a take on Animal farm and modern politics, called Animal Flow. If you're going to head down the Ren rabbithole I can suggest a few to listen to and watch. His YouTube is @RenMakesMusic, For a similar Bardcore as Hi Ren try the Tale of Jenny and Screech, look for the full 13 min video, it has Jenny's Tale, Screeches Tale and Violets Tale. His duet with Chincilla called Chalk Outlines speaks to the soul, he is a bit of a rapper too, check out Losing it, The Hunger or his retake on Bittersweet Symphony. His old band, called The Big Push is worth checking out too.

I first listened to Hi Ren then I went and watched other people reacting to it (it is a common genre of video on YouTube), not necessary for their reaction but for the comment section, universally everyone loved it and you get hundreds of stories of peoples struggles and how this song helped them, seriously from teens to septuagenarians all commenting about what this song has done for them. There a limitless reaction videos on YouTube and it is well worth your time looking at a few. When I first watched the video it had about 1-2million views it is now up to 12 million and growing fast.

Edit, Forgot to add, if you listen or watch Ren's interview with Justin Hawkins (of The Darkness fame) on his podcast, Justin Hawkings Rides Again. It will give you a comprehensive story of who Ren is and how he got to be where he is now. Really interesting.
