Saddening to read the latest update on our 1991 League Cup winning captain, was aware that he got home last Christmas after being in hospital a long time , things are not getting any easier for him
While he is best known from his time at Celtic , the part he played in the team that wouldn’t die captaining us to our League Cup win in 1991 gives him legendary status here as well.
Keep fighting Murdo hope things get better for you soon.

Can only wish Murdo well and that he can be with us for some time yet.

A huge signing for us at the time, and I remember a bumper crowd travelling up to Tannadice for his debut. Will forever be a club hero with the ‘91 win, which for many of us was the first trophy we saw Hibs win.

Will always be welcome at Easter Road.

I knew he had been unwell but that sounds absolutely horrific for him. Hope his continuing recovery goes well and he can have the best quality or life possible.

I'm a bit too young to remember him at ER but I remember on the BBC show about our Skol Cup win (That was the team that was?) he came across as being a big influence on the team and a proper leader at a difficult time.

Poor Murdo. Sounds horrendous what he's been going through.

Always remember a preview of the final the night before going through. Murdo was interviewed and asked, given he'd won multiple trophies with Celtic and a cup with Dortmund, what it would mean to him to lift the League Cup as Hibs captain. He replied "everything."

Get well soon, Murdo.

Lovely post, sums everything up perfectly.

I remember as a lad watching Celtic train on the lawn at Seamill Hydro and Murdo was running around on a roasting hot day . Little did I know that less than ten years later I’d be watching him lift the Skol Cup with us . A great shame

Met Murdo a few times during his time as our Captain and it was always at a function at some ungodly hour performing his duties and was always only too pleased to stop and chat always the perfect gentleman

Who would have thought a club almost ‘out the box ‘ could sign a German Cup and Super Cup winner and go on to win the Scottish League Cup the stuff of boys comic books

Murdo was a leader a calming influence in midfield always moving the ball along coaching and encouraging his teammates only too happy to lend his experience

Wishing him a speedy recovery and hope to see him at the next Captains Supper in our new Hospitality Suites

You are always welcome Murdo

Wish him a full and speedy recovery. A childhood hero and an iconic trophy lifting Hibs captain.

A class act on and off the pitch. Here's hoping he makes a speedy recovery.

I'm sorry to hear he's not well, though there were rumours a few years back when he stopped doing Sportsound. I hope he recovers. His face when he got his first goal running to the old East was brilliant.

I’m so sad to hear this news. Murdo is such a genuine man and although he will always be mainly associated with Celtic he listed his 2 best achievements as winning the cup with us and getting Partick Thistle promoted. One of the games good guys.

Sorry to hear he’s going through a very tough time . He was a great captain for us during a very turbulent period for our club. Winning the cup gave us all a boost and Murdo played a huge part in that team. Hope he can recover and get back some quality in his life.

Tough read, but he seems to (hopefully) have the mental strength and family bond to keep him going on the long road to recovery. All the best Murdo, wishing you many better days ahead.

That sounds absolutely awful. Hopefully he can get some sort of quality of life.
