Were we not told it would be a few months into next season before we saw him? Like Nov/Dec?

If I've not got that completely wrong then I'm not expecting to see him any time remotely soon, would love to be wrong though.

Yes, I recall the same.

I am sure he has been working hard on getting fit.

I was out cycling in E Lothian last Wednesday and stopped for a break at East Mains.

The car park was pretty empty, but Boyles car was there so he was presumably in doing some extra work.

I mean, I'm a wee bit concerned about what the Martin Boyle who returns for us will be like - he's not getting any younger, it's a serious injury and he's a player who has been mainly about pace.

But surely we can't dismiss the massive role he's played for us in recent years? He's given us years of outstanding service and the difference between Hibs with Boyle and Hibs without Boyle has always been stark.

Boyle has been ridiculously consistent for a player who plays his position and his contribution has been about way more than just a handful of games.

Boyle only really had raw pace when he joined from Dundee, but hes a far far cleverer player now.

His positioning, use of the ball and ability to beat a man are excellent imo.

See the goal he scored to draw against Hearts when he wasnt even fit? That was about being clever, anticipating the ball from Youan and slotting it between spotty's legs.

If we can keep him and Youan, it will be nigh on impossible for teams to double up on both.

The word ‘might’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

I don’t actually disagree with you. But surely younger players deserve the right support from the club?

Take, oh I don’t know, Jair Tavares. Tell us he’s a young player with big potential who will be part of the first team squad, and supporters have suitable expectation. Tell us he’s gonna be incredible and give him the no.10 shirt and expectations are heightened unfairly.

Agree not the smartest move giving him that number in saying that he would have thought he would have been playing for us more than he has so really fundamentally up to him to earn that place and show he is good enough.

I forget the chronology but iirc Jair 1) didn’t ask or want the number 10 - he was aware of the importance attached 2) Boyler then cam back on the scene so it could have well been the intention that Jair play more of a prominent role/ get more opps then the Starman returned and there was only going to be one outcome.

Indo feel that Hibs Suffer when we are over reliant on one player who can then be sniffed out of others don’t also step up.

Hoping to be back for the Conference League game, 2nd leg (just been said on Sportsound).

They’ll probably see how the first leg goes and maybe save him for R3

I’d be very happy with a Boyle, Le Fondre Youan front three….think they’d pull opposing defences all over the shop with a combination of their pace and movement.

Love Boyle.

We need to be careful with him though, particularly in the early games. Boyle's game is based on sharpness, speed and being quick off the mark. Expect him to be used sparingly early in the season and really hope he is back at 100% come September.

We seem to have a more coherent transfer strategy this season so I expect us to have a bigger pool of older, experienced players in the squad which should ease the burden on Boyle.

Clearly a vital player for us. Hibs tick when Boyle plays well.

I agree with that, surely just signing better players than we currently have hopefully makes the team better.

Then a better team wins more games, which means higher league placing and bigger crowds.

I wonder if it will catch on? :greengrin

Signing players for the future is all well and good, but lets sign players for the here and now, and worry about the future when it comes.

It wasnt a rumour, it was true, he did leave - to Saudi.

He then came back, scored an equaliser through spottys legs in extra time of his first match back.

Its a great story

There was a rumour doing the rounds prior to Martin Boyle’s departure to the Middle East, suggesting that he and his wife were quite open to the idea of emigration to Australia at some stage where both could earn a good living playing football and the family could enjoy a very good quality of life.

Whether there was much truth in that remains to be seen, but it wasn’t an inconceivable suggestion.

A rumour is a rumour. It only becomes true when it becomes a fact.

However, there was definitely a whisper about him leaving which I alluded to a couple of weeks ago. Nothing more substantial than that as far as I know.

Same here. Also, the post you quoted stated there was a rumour he WAS leaving. Not is. It suggests that ship has sailed and it's past tense, ie he was leaving but isn't now. If the rumour related to now, the poster would have said that. They didn't.

Teams will always be willing to take a chance on a decent player. We did it last year on a 36 year old who had been out for 7 months.

Well that rumour never reached us here in Oz so whatever rounds it was doing weren’t very big rounds.
