SoL was a nice surprise and a great finish to the day.

My kids were with me and loved it… they’ve never sung it at a Hibs game before. I could see the penny dropping about what makes this club special.

Yep, being a Hibs fan is mostly a tough gig, but every now and the we have good days.

Such a special song, with a simple message. The best football anthem without question.

You do make a very good point James.
With so many films over the years having Proclaimers songs incuding adverts etc and of course shown worldwide.
It all does reflect good on the club when its known tht SOL is our anthem.
Then there is all those youtube videos doing the rounds worldwide.

It is ,i agree ,very important that it is only aired from the Holy Ground stands after wins against them (or Hampden !!)

I remember sitting in the old stand at tynie when we beat St Johnstone in the LC semi final and the stadium announcer, Scott "another full house" Wilson, did not have it in him to play SOL at the end of the game.
Chose another Proclaimers tune instead.
Yes,we get under their skin 24/7 ....no doubt on that.

Even on the radio it sounded absolutely phenomenal. I had the obligatory lump in the throat, then the equally obligatory homesickness.

Totally agree with the comments above, it should be kept for the great moments. The reason it has such an impact is because of the emotion behind it. As much as I love Hibs, I'm not sure I could muster the same feelings about scraping a 1-0 mid-table win over, say, St Mirren (no offence meant to any St Mirren fans who might be on here!)

It’s such a good song. No barbs, no sectarianism or racism, just an outstanding ballad with great lyrics, great passion and a great connection to our club. Mind you, I’m surprised they don’t do Sunshine on Leeds down south. Someone will definitely try to copy it somewhere in Europe maybe.

absolutely. I’d hate for it to be played every game. It would lose a wee bit of its power.

YNWA is an iconic football anthem but in my opinion it suffers a bit from over-use.

I’m sitting going through YouTube trying to decide which of our Sunshine on Leith renditions I like the most.

I wish I was the Scottish Cup win but just to be nitpick, I think the music and singing on the tannoy was a little too load and takes away from the fans singing. (still one of the best days of my life though).

The Simon Murray derby under the lights will be up there too but watching it back some fans at the beginning seem to be getting the words mixed up. Need to deduct a few points for that. Was still an amazing night.

Saturdays game would be up there but I couldn’t make it along but it did sound amazing from my flat window.

The CIS Cup Final in my opinion is our best rendition to date.

Thoughts?

Was that when it became the anthem?

I can’t actually remember the first time it was sung properly at ER along the lines of what we do now. Anyone hazard a guess?

As for the best rendition, who knows but Saturday’s was special. Not just because it seemed loud as but simply due to the ridiculous amount of time since we’ve been able to sing it after beating them at ER! A real outpouring of emotion.

Playing SOL after wins v the OF, Hearts, in a big European game or after a cup win is perfect and that's how it should be. Any more dilutes the impact.

There's a reason why it was so ****ing good on Saturday - because we hadn't played it post-match for three years.
