Who did everyone have for mom . Stevenson , Nisbet JDH and Hanlon were all worthy of it but 1 man stood above everyone on the parm for me Newell . He looked like he was determined to win , always looking for the ball , putting himself about . A real masterclass .

Newell for me :agree:

Understand why Nisbet got it but Newell was the best player on the pitch today.

Newell for me too, think JDH was very good too and Nizzy actually got stuck in for once but Joe was the standout for me

Joe Newell for me, followed by JDH then Paul Hanlon

All the players mentioned in the OP are in with a fair shout. Newell or Hanlon for me, genuinely can’t pick between them.

Newell for his contribution from start to when he was subbed…JDH had an excellent 2nd half

I find Newell frustrating as hell at times. Probably because he's capable of performances like that. He was majestic for the whole game.

Bit of humble pie eaten here. I'd give newell an equal share with Hanlon and Nisbet.

JDH. I thought he put in a fantastic shift.

Many good candidates but Youan for me. Worked so hard, got clattered many times, caused Hearts to panic and back peddle whenever he went on a run.

Newell for me too. Agree with others that JDH, Lewis, Hanlon and Nisbet all played very well and I think Egan-Riley deserved special mention as I thought he played very well in the second half after a shaky first 45. Marshall was also good today making a few saves and getting us going with good and generally quick distribution.

Hanlon.

I’m his biggest critic but this isn’t even a question for me. Newell by an absolute mile.

Nisbet was also very good even outwith the goal.

15-04-2023, 04:20 PM
Newell maybe. Also thought that Egan-Riley was immense in the second half and had a shout for MotM

Newell by a country mile! Proper derby performance that, we defended solidly when we had to, lacked a bit quality in wide areas but Newell was superb. Wish he would do it every week as he's got that in him clearly!

Newell, it wasn't even close for me, there were a few really good performances, but if Newell cant win a MOM after that performance he never will, he was on it for the whole time he was on the park, a superb effort.

I'd agree with you on Newell mom, although I thought JDH and Hanlon were also immense. That was a masterclass in forward play from Nisbet. What an intelligent footballer he is. He has the potential to go to the top level. He just needs to apply himself like that in every game and his class will show.

Joe Newell gets my vote though - definitely his best game in a Hibs shirt 💚

Nisbet deserved his goal and MOTM. But Newell was very good, especially second half.

JDH was the one that stood out as energised and in their faces from first minute.

And by **** if Youan had an end product…

Newell was my man of the match by a distance if I'm honest.

Thought JDH and Nisbet were great, CJ was class second half as well and Hanlon showed exactly why we miss him when he's out. But Joseph was a different level today. Absolute class!

A few contenders, and would agree with the arguments for JDH and Joe Newell for the gong. A couple of other honourable mentions for me would be Stevenson. He played at a tempo very early in the game that exemplified his desire to be on a winning side. Never shirked a tackle and stuck his head in amongst the boots for the cause. Also thought that despite picking up an early booking, then sailing close to the wind for a second, Egan-Riley had a terrific afternoon. Read the game well and intercepted many cross field deliveries to them stride forward and start attacks for ourselves.

I wouldn’t have liked to have been the one to have had to make the call!

I think they should have dispensed with a man of the match today is the entire Hibs team put in an equally good performance.

JDH (noticeable drop in team performance when he went off) for me. Hanlon, Newell and Stevenson also strong performers.

Still doesn’t deflect from the major work needed to make this team more competitive. Also have to say that’s the worst I’ve seen Hearts in a long time and the quietest their fans have been too. They had no expectation of an equaliser.

Not only was Newell the best player on the park by a mile, but id say his performance was as good as i have seen from a Hibs midfielder in the past few seasons. He really done it all today , defensively and in attack. Need performances close to that level consistently and with same levels of drive and determination. Hopefully this kicks him on to a new level

Very difficult as they really all were superb. But Newell was absolutely flawless - controlled aggression matched with intelligence and vision. Perfect derby performance.

not a slight on the team today as fair play hibs we were brilliant but in general would love to see him in a better team ...

Easily Newell for me, won several key tackles and interceptions and played some excellent balls in behind their fullbacks for cadded and youan to run on to

Paul Hanlon without a shadow of a doubt. Not even close to being fit to train let alone play 90 minutes, but he said he was playing because he’s knows what the badge means, won every header at the back and set up the goal. It’s all because of him

Easily Newell for me as well. He was immense.

Early doors the atmosphere was understandably tense. Then Joe put in two great tackles out on the left and it got the fans up off their feet. Then from then on it as up there with the best atmosphere at ER in years.

I met Joe last week in hospitality and got a picture with him. I said at the time he needs to dominate midfield this weekend. And he did. So you’re all welcome

I agree. Pretty much flawless performance to go along with an assist.
