Awful day. Know someone who had a ticket that day behind the goal but sold it last minute.

They always felt lucky.

We swapped ours for the stand after the crushing we experienced the year before in the Leppings Lane end.

Awful, horrific tragedy.

A hell on earth that The Sun chose to profit from.

It’s always disappointed me that the mods on here don’t blank out all references and content from that banal rag.

Any easy choice and a principled one that requires only a modicum of character.

I was in the stand opposite the tunnel, terrible day.

I was right opposite you, then.

Dreadful day, pre mobile phones so lots of people at home had no idea who was alive or dead.

I have always said that the police treat football fans like animals, and sadly this was the culmination of that mindset.

We got our tickets from Brian Rice sister, she worked next to us at the time.

Got tickets the previous year as well.

If only lessons were learned from the previous year....

And from Wolves v Spurs in 1981. Ref stopped the game that year and a load of fans ended up sitting watching the game pitchside.

Madness the same thing was allowed to happen at least 3 times.

RIP to the 97.

We take a lot of abuse both here and in person for running this place and we generally laugh it off. However that is a pretty low blow. If you have that low an opinion of the people who give up their time to run this place then maybe your own time is best spent elsewhere.

Anywhere that football fans die is an absolute tragedy, whether it's Bradford, Hillsborough or Heysel.

:agree:

What most of those events have in common was the complete lack of feeling for Fans as human beings.

None of those stadiums were fit for purpose and the clubs & authorities showed no interest whatsoever, despite all the warning signs.

The only reason that the vast majority of clubs have modern stadia today is because of the horrific events in Sheffield all those years ago, not from any genuine interest from the club owners or authorities.

Some of the places we watched football in back in the day were rubble strewn wrecks.
I remember a midweek game up in Aberdeen shortly after Hillsborough. We were housed in the old Beach End which had pretty restrictive old staircases to get out of the ground. There had been trouble outside the ground before the game and the police decided they were going to search every single Hibs fan as we left for knives. The inevitable happened and a crush started to develop on the stairwells, it really was frightening. It took a lot of shouting at the police for them to see sense and just open the gates properly but the fact that things like that were still happening after Hillsborough shows how football supporters were seen by the authorities.

Horrendous. The police lifted the wrong guy too just to move things along. The idea they would find a knife on someone hours later, after the match showed they weren't the brightest sparks. Idiots and shameful what they did to the guy arrested.

I don't think I've ever seen a link to The S*n on here without the follow-up comment 'apologies it's the s*n' or the full name not actually used. People should be able to choose to click on it or not, as it currently is & the dig against the characters of the admin from Judas was unnecessary.
