Top marks to Aussie coach Graham Arnold for inviting him.

The two matches against Ecuador are billed as the ‘Welcome Home’ celebration for the World Cup squad who went to Qatar, and Martin will line up for the applause with the rest of the squad and back room staff.

Obviously Boyler had to pull out of the squad just prior to the start of the WC, but he remained in camp as the Chief Vibe Officer at Arnie’s request because of his positive personality.

Many clubs/countries would just see him as ‘an injured player’ and not bother to invite him…but that he DID get an invite indicates how highly he is thought of, and appreciated down here

Full marks to Graham Arnold, Hibs and the Aus Football Association for what is an unprecedented move and will surely boost Martin’s morale as he walks the long lonely road of rehabilitation.

It’s a win-win decision.

Fantastic gesture by Arnie. Boyler will appreciate this and it’ll hopefully spur him on in his recovery

Great post and totally agree . Brilliant from Aussie coach Graham Arnold and Aus football Association :top marks. It obviously must be a really hard time for Boyle and hopefully gives his morale a boast ,was really happy when I seen he was joining up with his international team . All positive and as you say it's a win - win for everybody. Great stuff.

When I saw this earlier, I got my hopes up that he had somehow had a miracle recovery and might make the post split games.

Do we have an idea of how long he's out for?

Dunno.

But One of the Oz Matildas suffered the same injury in the women’s champions league final last May, and only started playing 10 days ago

No two injuries are the same obviously, but I’d be surprised if he was fit enough to undertake preseason training with the rest of the squad next season

FWIW I’ve just seen video footage of him getting off the team bus at the training ground and he appeared to be walking normally.

I’m sure the weather might be quite appealing too

Did Johnson not say a couple of weeks ago that Boyle was ahead of schedule in his recovery but that they wouldn’t be rushing him.

he seems to bring out crap weather in Sydney every time he comes here .
Mid 30s C and sunny for weeks then it rains when he gets here .
Was almost constant rain for months when he was last out

Still won't be ready before next season

Could be, wasn't a full acl rupture or anything, was surgery on an existing tear. Will be a lengthy time out but 9-12 months isn't crazy for a full rupture and reconstruction, Boyle was ruled out in Dec, through to August would be around 9 months.

If he's ahead of schedule he very well might be back for late pre season.

He's Scottish so I'm sure he appreciates you arranging the weather to make him feel at home.
