Just read that Chris has died aged 80.
Started his career at Hearts, then a free transfer to Celtic and joined Hibs in 1968, was player of the year in 1970 and made 91 appearances before joining Morton.
RIP.

Remember him well, very good player, well known name on the team sheet, sad news. Must have seen most of the home games he played for us.

My dad was a big hearts fan and when I was a wee boy ( 10 yrs old) I was at the minto hotel for someone in the family’s party and Chris shevlane was at the bar and my dad got him to introduce himself and I mind at the time was his ginger hair really stood out. He was a great player for both hibs and hearts. RIP
Anyone remember Chris's brother? He had more Catholic badges on his scarf than half the Celtc support combined. Must have weighed a ton.

Chris was one of those players whom you knew would always put in a sound performance. Never let the team down. RIP and condolences to his family.

Yep, Pat. He had learning difficulties, worked as a porter in the Scottish Office. Loved to tell everyone his brother played for Celtic :greengrin

He used to play in the legendary kick about games in the meadows. Chris used to sometimes join in risking life and limb as the games were fiercely intense.

I too remember Pat Shevlane from my school and teen years.I went to school in Glen Street.
As said,Pat could be spotted in the Meadows/Tollcross area, sporting his lapel badges.
Chris, although did not quite break through at Celtic, was a very good player.
Unfortunate with his ankle problems, although he did himself proud with us and our city neighbours!
Played in an era in Scotland when we had good quality players in his position.
He ran a pub (Shevlanes Bar) in the east end of Glasgow after he retired.
His family still own it.His son has paid a tribute to his Dad on facebook/pub website
"The Meedies" get a mention,a place where some fine Edinburgh footballers learnt the game.

What a memory jolt that is👌
Really nice guy. I worked beside him as a porter at John Menzies on Princes Street and had forgotten that. I hope he’s still going strong and sorry to hear that Chris has passed on.

Remember the last game of the season 1970 the 12 year old Billy Hibs and his pal got the train through to East End Park
We stood outside the Main Stand waiting on the Hibs bus to roll up
The Shev smiled when he saw our scarves and was only too pleased to oblige us with two briefs for the Centre Stand

You will have your wonderful memories with your pal.
Such a long time friendship.
Been reading tributes elsewhere and such a well liked man was "The Shev"
Of course, my brother Jimmy knew him well from his Hearts and Hibs days and even in their younger years up at The Meedies for a game on a Sunday or summer evenings. We hailed from the Grassmarket then.
God Bless you and the Shevlane Family.
Hibs Player of the Year Award 1970 was presented to Chris by Jimmy O'Rourke who was the previous years recipient.
Those two may well be reminiscing now.
His memory marches on !
Rest in Peace "The Shev"
