Really surprised Nisbet isn't included. Probably a good thing for us right now though, but he'll be gutted.

Steve Clarke seems to have a strange fetish for players playing in the English Championship.
No Nisbet or Shankland ahead of either Jacob Brown or Lyndon Dykes is laughable.

Actually forgot all about Shankland. Though think he's injured or just about to be back fit.
I've honestly no idea who Jacob Brown is so can't comment on him, but isn't Dykes not long out of a stay in hospital for health reasons?

Jacob Brown is a very average English Championship striker who has a whopping 5 league goals for Stoke this season.

To be fair Nisbet hasn't been that long back from injury, but surely his goalscoring form since returning merits inclusion. to pick Jacon Brown ahead of Shankland as well is a weird one. Brown isn't exactly on an amazing run of goalscoring form. 7 goals in 35 matches and a success rate of only 16% from shots taken.

That’ll be Dykes that’s got a better scoring record than any of our other options. He’s not my favourite either but it’s hardly surprising he’s been called-up by Clarke if available.
Nisbet isn’t yet back starting for us, and Shankland has been unlucky with timing of his injury.

I just think that Clarke doesn't really rate Scottish Football and only selects from up here if necessary or if you play for either of the OF and in good form.

To be fair to Clarke, I think he’s given Scotland based players more of a chance than any other Scotland managers so I don’t think it’s a particularly fair criticism.
Nisbet and Shankland have had injury problems, which cloud the issue for this match in a big way.
I don’t think Clarke would have a problem picking either if they were fully fit.
Clarke does have his faults. He can be loyal to players who are out of form and I think he can be found wanting with some of his tactical choices, especially in our biggest games at Hampden.

That was certainly what he intimated a few years ago. He's nowhere near their squad though so probably fancies his chances of getting a few caps looking at the competition he is up against.
I never understood why Clarke was so insistent on playing Gordon in meaningless games. Crazy we are going into some crucial fixtures with a trio of keepers without a cap between them.

Nisbet and Shankland are both just back from injury. Nisbet hasn't played more than an hour combined in our last two games.
Quite right for them not to be in the Scotland Squad.

Dykes played 57 minutes at the weekend. His first game back since being admitted to hospital with pneumonia in January.

I would normally agree but including Jacob Brown who has been capped a handful of times and IIRC hasn't started any games which included meaningless friendly games at the end of last year and thus most likely will struggle to be involved in the games for more than 20 mins makes me think that both Nisbet and Shankland could be more impactful coming of the bench when needing a goal as both have better goalscoring records this season.
Also Dykes played his first game since January this weekend.

I was the match, thought Dykes looked good and not lacking sharpness or be far from full fitness

Nisbet is just back after 6 weeks out injured and is still not starting for Hibs and that comes on top of 9 months out injured before that so it makes sense not to have him in the Scotland squad yet. Hope he is ready to start against Motherwell.
Shankland is injured as well otherwise he would have played on Saturday.
Dykes was in hospital with pneumonia but is back fit and well and played at the weekend. Unlikely to be ready to play 90 minutes yet.
Brown was Stoke player of the season last season. His team are 3 place below Porteous team Watford.
Nisbet is likely to be a Championship player by next season so will add to the Championship players in the Scotland squad.
The injured McKenna and Stewart are misses.
Nisbet and Shankland are close to squad level.
Gunn is a great addition. He and Clark are decent keepers and could be the main guys for a while with Gordon, McGregor, Marshall and McLaughlin over the hill.
As ever we are still looking for another EPL level striker.

He can’t win. He also got stick for calling up players from his successful Killie team who were doing well, like Brophy. Or stick for picking players like O’Donnell and Declan Gallagher. Limited as they are, who did well for Scotland.

TBF I didn't have an issue with picking players from his Killie team at the time as he knew how to get the best out of them whilst assessing his other options for future squads.

That was my take, both been injured. Had Nisbet not got injured against County then I think he would have been included.
I imagine we'll see a time soon where they both get included, probably with Jacob Brown being excluded and I don't think anyone will notice he is.
Good to see Angus Gunn in the squad, cap him on the 25th and lock him in (also funny because the Jambos thought they had the no. 1 shirt locked in again).

I don't entirely agree with that, i think Clarke has actually went against the trend of picking someon just because they play for an English team e.g. he's had no issue taking Ryan Fraser out of contention.
He also took Nisbet to the Euros, played in all 3 games, and capped Hanlon and Paul McGinn.

What a bizarre squad selection, Dykes is no long out of hospital (if he is out at all?) with a respiratory problem, no Shankland or Nisbet is mental, Angus Gunn should’ve been told to get ****ed when he turned us down the first time

I don't get that mentality, why would we turn down a potential number 1 keeper for the next few years when we know it could be a real problem position?
Che Adams didn't want to play for us either at first and is far and away the best forward we have, he's a big reason why SJM is now one of the all-time top scorers.

Gunn at 27 is ready to play for Scotland now.
He is finally playing 1st team football regularly for almost the first time in his career and has realised his level isn't England.
Zander Clark is probably the only decent keeper Scotland have with Kelly struggling for form.
Gunn doubles that up to two.
A lot of English accents in the Scottish team now but the quality is also the best it's been for 40 years. It's no coincidence and being O'Donnell and Gallacher free pretty much sees the overall quality still rising.
A lot of that is down to persuading the likes of Adams, McTominay and now Gunn to play for Scotland.
I suspect Gunn would have been told to GTF if he had been a midfield player but fortunately we were clever enough not to burn our bridges. Now that we desperately needed a quality keeper to replace Gordon we have revisited and he wants to play. It's a well done Clarke from me.
Hopefully he plays well and is our keeper for the next 10 years.

Who is missing from todays squad of 23 other than Nisbet, Shankland, Taylor, Fraser, McKenna, Doig and Stewart?
3 guys playing MLS, Morgan, Gauld and Russell none of whom are likely to be called up.
Ralston at Celtic has no chance now with the young guns ahead of him.
O' Donnell at Celtic isn't a good enough athlete to get in their team so won't get Scotland call up.
I presume there are lots of good Scottish players in England i have forgotten about.

Tbf, Shankland is not in the hottest of form. He's scored 1 league goal from open play since the New Year Derby. On top of that, the majority of his 20 goals have been pens.

I seem to recall seeing Angus Gunn let the ball go through him on his first start back with Norwich a few weeks ago on the highlights on Sky. Hope that was a one-off as can definitely see him starting for Scotland.

Clark has played well since taking over from Gordon and is certainly playing better than Gordon was in the months before he was crocked. Obviously you would want someone who has played at a higher level but at 30 years old Clark has plenty experience, 3 times the experience of Gunn who at the age of 27 has played a little over a 100 games albeit at that higher level.
