I've been watching a few episodes of ' Only fools and horses ' and after all these years they still make me laugh , I do have many more I like though for me this one's my favourite and is comedy at its best . What comedy sitcoms do you enjoy?

Father Ted.

Peerless.

The "Song for Europe" episode is the best 30 minutes of television ever made.

Frasier is probably my pick, “The Innkeepers” episode where they takeover a restaurant is a particular favourite. Outside of that I watch Phoenix Nights back quite often and more recently I like ‘It’s always sunny in Philadelphia’.

Another vote for Father Ted here.

Fawlty Towers was good. A moustache to bring it back though I'd say.

I also enjoyed Car Share more recently.

I'd add another vote for Car Share. More recent faves are Motherland, Two Doors Down, This Country and Outnumbered. Older shows I liked were Some Mothers Do Av Em, Cheers, Golden Girls, Friends and Still Game.

The Office
Fawlty Tours
Detectorists (maybe not a comedy sitcom as such, but subtle comedy and great characters)

The Young Ones. The grotesque exaggeration of 4 different kinds of personality living under one roof but still held together with common interests was genius. Add to that a mix of great guests from the comedy scene, great bands and subliminal messaging and you had cult television. After each episode the countdown started immediately to the next eagerly awaited episode.

Seinfeld.

The Inbetweeners

So many good ones.

Friends and Father Ted are my 90’s picks.

Scrubs was great but it jumped the shark after the end of the original series.

The Inbetweeners, Peep Show, Fresh Meat and Motherland all worth a mention. Peep Show probably gets special mention because of the way it’s filmed.

Norsemen on Netflix. Not for everyone but my current favourite. Finally catching up with The Detectorists. Brilliant writing and performances.

The two that have me laughing every time I watch them, even though I have watched every episode so often that I even remember the words are:
Still Game
Only Fools and Horses

Nothing else comes close for me.

The movies were not great, should have left it after the TV series finished. However, the movies were brilliant compared to the US version of the Inbetweeners. Only lasted one season and was awful, watered down p***. The US really cannot replicate that kind of humour.

I'm not a great fan of the movies tbh. The original series was just so good, so original, I loved it. The movies were OK, just nothing compared to the C4 series.

Father Ted and bits of Big Train for clever, silly laugh out loud.

Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister and The Thick of It for characters interacting with one another laugh out loud

The Larry Sanders Show, it’s very funny but it is so, so much more than just that. Can also rightfully call itself the daddy of many, many comedies that followed.

Interestingly, most of those used the ‘three very different people stuck in a specific environment’ model. I don’t want to analyse it though, just enjoy it.

Wasn’t ‘Big Train’ a sketch show? I remember it being on TV around the same time as the office.

Yeah fair cop. It had some recurring characters but it wasn't a sitcom.

Movies are never as good when they do them based on a series. But that dancing scene in the club is one of the funniest things I've seen in a cinema.

Friends is the quintessential sitcom for me. I can watch a few episodes every night and when finished just start it from the beginning again. I know all the lines but they still make me laugh every time.

Trying to avoid ones already mentioned... Modern Family and How I Met your mother from America. There's a lot of good British stuff too, I don't think I've seen Cuckoo or Not Going Out mentioned yet which are 2 I've enjoyed.

Nathan Barley and Garth Marenghi's Darkplace are under appreciated classics. The broccoli episode of the latter is 30 minutes of comedy gold.

Can't believe nobody has suggested Mrs Brown's Boys and Miranda....

I used to work beside someone who actually thought both were hilarious. He was a strange sort who once boasted that he saved $20 by booking a room in Niagara that overlooked the car park rather than the falls.

I’ve not watched Friends in a long time, but seen the odd scene in passing. It surprised me that it appeared to have aged badly and was all a bit silly. To be fair the scenes mainly featured Joey. Loved it at the time, but maybe I’m just old and boring now.

My list has already been covered by most others (Frasier - my favourite, The Office (UK), Only Fools, Always Sunny, Seinfeld etc).

One not mentioned that I think has aged ok is The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air. Still quite funny and tackled series issues. They don’t make them like that anymore.

Miranda far worse for me. I genuinely had to leave the room when someone had it on in my presence as it was giving me a sore heid.

The Inbetweeners

Loved Seinfeld at the time. A number of episodes remain magnificent but I was actually quite surprised by how poorly some of it has dated. The last couple of seasons without Larry David really slide off a cliff. The quality he maintained throughout Curb Your Enthusiasm was impressive.

Love Brooklyn 99.

My ex-sister-in-law and her husband are doctors and they used to claim that Scrubs is the most realistic fictional medical TV show, more so than any drama.

Most of my favourites have been covered already, but I can’t recall anyone mentioning The Vicar of Dibley (then I notice it a little further up the page after I posted that).

Some classics already on this thread, for me:

The Office (UK is the gold standard with the US just behind it, both fantastic)
The IT Crowd
What We Do in the Shadows
Toast of London
Father Ted
The Inbetweeners
Police Squad
House of Fools
Catterick (not sure if this falls into sitcom territory but I'm recommending it anyway)
Thick of It
People Like Us (though I think one of them might have been a wrong 'un)
Alan Partridge
The Detectorists
