View Full Version : henderson
why do we persist with this guy?
He was rightly benched a few weeks back, he then came to one game to deliver a great assist and he gets a start.
But its the same time and time again, he flatters to deceive, cant tackle, doesnt work hard enough and dont get me started on the amount of times a move breaks due to him.
rant over…

No idea. He surely knows he isn't good enough himself.
It's not doing him any good either, his confidence will be shot.
He has quality but don't think we'll ever see it with ant frequency.

Rather than hound him for one awful performance or shower adulation after a couple of good ones it probably best to look at the bigger picture.
Inconsistent player, has his attributes, has his weaknesses. Is comfortably good enough to be able to make his mark against 3/4 of the sides we'll be coming up against, he's probably going to be a passenger against Celtic, Rangers and Hearts. He's young, he's inexperienced, he's got a bit of physical developing to do and a bit more match practice to gain but can we afford for him to do much of it in a Hibs jersey? I'm not sure.
I'm not in the "pish - get rid" camp but I'm far from convinced he can play a regular part and make a meaningful contribution to a Hibs side that finishes top 3 or wins a trophy. And that needs to be where the bar is set.

He's nowhere near good enough for us even as a squad playee. Lightweight and inconsistent.
Cheering when he went off tonight was moronic behaviour though. He's what we have and we'll need him between now and the end of the season.

Not a night to be hounding individual players.
A poor performance all round. Castigating a young player for an off night when we had so few options in midfield isn’t really much help to anyone.

I think we will try and shift him out in the summer , we tried in January by excepting a loan offer from some club for him but he didn't want to go . Looked good in a couple of games recently but overall he's not good enough imo

Correct. Was he any worse than the others?
He’s someone that’s been getting a bit of praise (or at least more than he was) for recent performances. Not the night for deciding there isn’t a player in there again.

Neither will playing. His body language suggests he is losing the battle to prove he's good enough for Hibs.
Confidence seems shot and he sadly is too weak for the league. Needs to strengthen up and build confidence and I don't see that happening at Hibs now.

He just looked like a lost wee boy out there tonight.
Now aged 23 he's never going to improve that much, if at all.
Just hope he doesn't linger around too long at ER. Know we are short due to injuries but how on earth he is deemed better than Laidlaw.

Probably right, not the boys fault we keep playing him. Hope he's nowhere near the first team next year though
Henderson was no worse than everyone else in Hibs shirt tonight, they were all far from good enough!
The manager has to take the blame for another pathetic formation and starting 11, he hasn't learned from previous games and his teams still lack aggression and belief when facing the old firm, we've barely turned up in these games!

He wouldn’t have played if any other midfielder was fit tonight. He wasn’t alone in being utterly disgraceful tonight but others have more credit in the bank than him. Shouldn’t be seen playing for Hibs again.
Not good enough and only getting a game due to injuries, will be away in the summer, very very inconsistent.

Exactly my take on it, we were all over place including the lead-up to their penalty, lucky to only be 2:1 down at half-time, no idea why he switched Youan who was doing fine on the left.
Failed to change anything at half-time, more of the same & game over before he made any substitutions.
Hate giving that lot anything to gloat over, we bent over & said please yourself tonight.

Genuine question, were his performances very good? I didn’t see any of those games, so the praise might well be merited. I just wonder if we’re into Drey Wright territory where expectations are so low that doing the basics gets blown out of proportion. Maybe that’s not the case and he actually did play well and deserves the praise.

I thought he was top notch against Killie. Unrecognisably better, in every way.
The Livi game I was only half watching on a dodgy stream in an ice cream parlour, bizarrely, but from what I saw he was doing well and his performance seems to have been well received.
It was always going to be a concern that he may not cope with the step up in standard against tonight’s opposition but he’d earned the right to start the game.
I’d all but lost hope in him prior to the Killie game, to be honest.

The type of player hibs need to move on fast if they want to be serious about 3rd most seasons
He’s young and should be improving at a fast rate.
The class of younger players we signed before that improved leaps and bounds in a similar time frame is night and day compared to Henderson sadly.
Like a few others still on the books, best for both parties to part ways now.

It would be if he usually puts in a good performance. The passable performances are too few and far between. Just because everyone else was crap doesn’t get him off the hook. Others had credit in the bank. He doesn’t.

No point in having players at the club who disappear in the big games. Henderson isn't alone in that respect but he's definitely in that category. And if you're not good enough for these games, you shouldn't be at the club.

Henderson is good at free kicks.
Set up the goal tonight with his first and found Youan one on one with the keeper with his second.

There are some folk (I'd say Josh Campbell, John McGinn, Lewis Stevenson) where if you gave them an envelope with £3m in it, and said "it's up to you now whether you want to keep playing or not" they'd pocket the £3m and keep on playing exactly as they had done before, til the body gives up, because they absolutely love the game.
With Henderson, I honestly get the impression you'd be doing him a massive favour, and he'd pocket the money and look so relived that he never had to play football again.

Hardly had the ball long enough to class as possession. His touch, body shape, body strength and any other mechanism you might use to retain the ball were missing tonight.
