View Full Version : Is Hibs playing style leading to other teams getting players sent - off ?

Was just checking the league table, fixtures and so on and noticed 10 players have been sent- off against us . Dons 2 , Livvy 2 , Kilmarnock 2 , Huns 2 , St Johnstone and Motherwell. That's a third of the games we have played were there's been a opposition player sent- off , seems a high percentage to me , a coincidence or down to the way we are playing now ?

Huns 2 as well.
Sorry, can’t answer your question any more than that but felt it was worth pointing out 😃

I think it's 11 players sent off against Hibs this season.
Like the numbers of penalties given against certain teams it's just coincidence but conspiracy theorists will tell you differently.

Off the top of my head you have yesterday, Killie at home earlier in the season, Motherwell at home and even the first Rangers one at home where we forced them through a good ball behind, breaking quickly etc.
Morellos at ER, Scales twice, the Killie one a couple of weeks back and Holt at ER were just a mixture of poor defending or bad tackles rather than us doing anything special. But none of that has been our fault and in at least a couple of cases we were well on our way to winning the games anyway.

It absolutely is. Other than the Killie one the other week that failed their appeal I can't think of a red that I haven't agreed with. I'm generally pretty honest at games as well and it's not just cause it's tackles against our players.

Forgot about the other one in Hun game , thanks bingo 👍. That's 10 players sent - off against us in 27 games then .

I didn’t agree with the Kilmarnock one the other week and I didn’t agree with the livingston one at Easter Road.
The Aberdeen one in the first game at Easter Rd caused a lot of controversy but I think it was the right decision.
The Lundstrom one was rescinded but I remember that at real time I thought it was a horrible and cynical tackle, slowing it down mate it look not as bad but it was the right call in my opinion.

I can only think on 10 in the league actually maybe I'm missing one .

When you attack more, you can expect more fouls against you, ergo more yellow and red cards

Someone mentioned 11 yesterday, it might be 10 as I can't think of any missing from your original list of 9 other than the second one in the Rangers game

Exactly, this coupled with having more naturally skilful/flair players leads to more fouls, more bookings and more red cards. Quite simple really

Yes, albeit it's 9 in the league and 2 in Europe.

Yeah that makes sense , I have the two Dons , Kilmarnock , lundstrum and latest Livvy sending offs all caused by us attacking the opposition.

Think it's we attack more, but we also have a very, very fast team atm. That causes a lot of it too, players getting to the ball first, getting in behind etc.

Pace is certainly a factor and getting into situations where the forward is goal side of the defender. :agree:

Refs are corrupt and bias in our favour.

It's because the type of pace we have up top and the nature of how well we get in behind defenses.

It's not just a coincidence. We are forcing the opposition in to silly mistakes. It's very much a by-product of the way we play.
