Returned from his loan at Cove Rangers.
"A space had to be freed-up" & "Hibernian agreed for Kyle McClelland to return from his loan spell with us" doesn't sound good.

I don’t think he can play for the first team given he’s returned outside the transfer window, unless it was a development loan which I don’t think it was.

I wouldn't worry about it, he has basically been bombed out of Cove because he's not good enough for them.

Another weird signing of a young lad that wasn't really good enough to start with, his early performances showed that.

It looks like they have been signing a few experienced players on loan in the last month. in order to sign Jackson Longridge on loan they had to cancel the loan of Kyle as they had used their 5 loan spaces

Oh I’m not but there’s some strange people on Facebook wanting him in the team. I don’t think he can if we wanted (which we won’t).

Doesn’t sound good, and another player kicking around not likely to get a game (we did well in the window to move a few of these along). But realistically, what’s the best solution here. How long left on his contract?

Signed a three year deal until 2025 with an option of an extra year

Hardly a weird signing! A young lad with potential?

The positives from his league cup appearances seem to have been airbrushed from history in favour of holding onto his disaster against Falkirk, although it sounds like his loan spell at Cove hasn't gone that well.
He's a young centre half. We've had a lot of those get close to the first team over the years and then not quite make it. Porteous, Forster then Hanlon actually represents a decent hit rate in that position but how many Dempsies, Darren McCormacks and the like have nearly got there but not quite made the breakthrough?
I wonder if we just assumed that because he was coming from Rangers that he'd be much better than our own youngsters in that position only for that not to be the case?
I'm guilty of being one of those who wants to see our youth players get more of a chance but have to say that Hibs don't often get it badly wrong with the ones they let go who fall just short of being good enough. At the moment McClelland looks like being another one of those.

They all have potential but he wasn't any better than the lads in the Dev squad that have came through the system, another punt but using money unwisely.

i have seen some cove games, i have seen him play for hibs B team against brechin City, at newtongrange, i thought he was dreadful, and got replaced at HT.
He’s been terrible for cove, and yet hibs fans on facebook want him to replace hanlon in the first team.

He will hardly be on huge wages though. We have done well picking up players from other Scottish clubs when released and he seems to have been held in high regard. Wouldn't write him off yet.

He appears to be another belter from our 2022 recruitment. He looked decent in couple of strolls in the sun v Clyde in the League Cup and 45 mins in a friendly v Norwich reserves.
Outside that, he was honkin v Falkirk in the League Cup and then sent on loan to the bottom of League 1 and now been bombed out from there. He played 4 games this year, 3 of those were 6-0, 6-1 and 5-0 defeats.
He hadn’t started since. He’s 21 and he’s got 2 and half years left on his deal🥴.

Hard to blame him for those results as Cove haven't been upto much this season.

So he has plenty of time to develop then? Don't get the hate on this one.

Cove are in the Championship, not league 1.
In 2023 he's made 5 appearances for Cove.
He didn't play in the 6-0 defeat to Queens Park.
He played the second half of the 6-1 defeat at Inverness (lost that second half 3-0 and he scored an OG).
He played the first 45 of the 0-5 defeat to Ayr (0-1 at the half).
Played 90 in a 0-3 defeat by Ayr (Cove went down to 10 after 60 minutes and it was 0-1 at the time).
Played 90 in a 2-2 with Raith.
Played the last 30 in the 2-1 defeat by Morton on Saturday.
I'm not arguing whether or not he's good enough, just providing more accurate stats.

Some of the fans on FB need their bumps felt something rotten. All the same, would not be writing off McClelland quite yet.

I watched the ayr game when he was subbed off.
He was rotten.
He currently isn't championship standard.
A lot of defenders though take a while to reach the maturity. Obviously Porto an exception.
I'd be happy to get him out on loan again next season then re asses.

Prove them wrong Kyle :aok:
He's here!

Spell back at ER will hopefully help restore his confidence. Doesn't sound like the best loan move for him as there's no doubt he's got potential.
