Tragically, two bodies have been recovered in the Clyde. It made me consider something which I have often thought about since I was a young teenager ( over 60 years ago ). My dad worked in Leith docks and his job often involved going out into the docks and into the Forth estuary in small craft and bigger tugs and I often accompanied them. I didn’t realise or understand at the time, but on reflection, nobody ever wore boyancy aids or life belts. I have no idea if health and safety rules were being ignored then but I am surprised that in this day and age, such disregard for suitable safety precautions might have contributed to this tragedy.

I get that my dad worked for Dinwoodies from Granton Harbour, unfortunately this today brings back terrible memories as he and Robert Dinwoodie lost their lives when their tug went down in the Forth.

It's the sort of thing that you assume wouldn't happen these days. Then it does.
