Met him at the Killie game earlier in the season. Spent quite a lot of time talking football and had a genuine interest in what I had to say.
Funny, charming and passionate about Hibs. Devastated at the news. Rest in peace, Ron.

Saddened to hear this news, and despite the statement from Ron a few weeks back it still came as a bit of a shock as like others, I’d sort of assumed he was perhaps on the road to recovery.
A very decent man who had the best of intentions for the club and his enthusiasm for Hibs was clear to see.
A sad day for the club, and thoughts are with the Gordon family at this difficult time.

It’s more of a shock because of the statement recently, I was under the assumption that he was on the mend.
Maybe it was his way of giving us a goodbye, to soften the blow. It didn’t.
Still a sad day, his enthusiasm was infectious.

This news also shocked me to the core today.
Surprisingly I too thought about SOL upon hearing the sad news - perhaps us fans could pay tribute to Ron and his family by uniting in full song to SOL before the next home game?
I can't think of a better tribute and it makes me emotional thinking of it.

I don't think it's really worth having that conversation at moment. Whatever Hibs do will be on Hibs' and Ron's family's terms - the prospect around Rangers or anyone else being disrespectful doesn't really come into it.

Completely stunned, not what I was expecting to see when I searched "Hibs" 5 mins ago.
When you look back at what he had to deal with on a Hibs perspective in the last 12-18 months whilst also fighting this battle...honestly, you have to take your hat off to him - takes a great man to work through all that with dignity and courage.
Sincere condolences to his family and friends. Really sad that this has happened so soon after such a positive, inspiring, message from Ron.

Seriously shocked and saddened at this news. Gobsmacked mouth was wide opened when I saw the bbc article. I will admit I had said a few angry words about him and his family after what had happened with the hearts game. But that was out-of frustration and before we all knew about what he had to deal with. Genuinely gutted for his family. Don't want to speculate but maybe his son was employed to take the reigns when he did pass. It doesn't matter though right now.

I was at his first or second AGM and the way he spoke was so enthusiastic and infectious, his excitement at owning the club and his hopes for it were palpable. He seemed such a warm and genuine man and even if lately criticism had come his way I never doubted his intentions for Hibs were anything but honourable from an honourable man.

Would also be nice if the likes of English spoke out at the time of their conversation about how he viewed Ron Gordon and his ideas for the club and scottish football. Obviously the aganda at the time was more in tune with sticking the boot into the running of the club. Not wanting to ruin the tone , and appreciate English speaking fondly of Ron . But would still be nice to hear the alternative views at the time and give some balance to how his work was interpreted by the media

I wouldn’t hold my breath. Comments on FF are very respectful and no reference to Ron’s death appear, as far as I can see, on KS. Hopefully the minute’s applause will pass without any unpleasant issues. Tension will be high at this game and quite a few will be tanked up, so there’s every likelihood of a few idiots making a fool of themselves.

There's been numerous Hibs greats who have passed away and it's always very sad however they are usually very elderly and you kind of expected it. This however hit me for six. Was looking at the tributes on Twitter earlier and not ashamed to say I shed a wee tear. He had so much more to give. Tragic. If I get only a fraction of the nice words when my time comes then I'll have been a very lucky man.

Can really see this not working out well. What this almost certainly means is that the whole Gordon family will be in attendance at the Rangers game and I can really see that ending up in a major embarrassment. Of all the teams that we have to by chance be playing it would just have to end up being them. Let’s just hope that Sunshine in Leith drowns them out, but please let’s not have a minute’s silence!

Yes not ideal that is for sure. Think all we can do is do what we should as we can’t control what they do. Their self entitlement is legendary. From what i remember tributes to Smith and Ricksen were well respected. Also remember a silence for the 100 year anniversary of Quintinshill rail disaster prior to our play off game which was well respected by both though the fact it was military deaths and they had a small number of fans likely was a factor.

For me, there should be a minute's silence, as this will be the first opportunity most supporters will have had to pay their respects.
The fact it will likely be ruined by those ****bags shouldn't change our plans. Let it, once again, show them up for the complete cretins they are.
If the women's game had a silence last night, then it should be the same next week.

I actually think a silence is a better option than an applause in this instance.
An applause gives the type of cowards who interrupts these things cover to do so and an easy out. 'I was only singing, what's the problem?'. It's easy to hide in a crowd with an applause.
A silence demands respect and if you don't respect it then it's blindingly obvious and everyone can see you have chosen not to. Rangers fans would do well to remember that Hibs fans behaved impeccably during the silence for Walter Smith (as did most Celtic fans tbf) and show reciprocal respect. I would just urge any Hibs fans to resist booing or shouting back if there is any interuption, we can show pay our respects for a minute then let them know what we think after the ref blows his whistle.

I think the first consideration must be the feelings of Ron Gordon's family who will be attending the game. Irrespective of how much embarrasment the currant buns might heap on themselves the point of any tribute is to give some comfort to the family and those left behind.
God knows I'd love to see the bigots shown up but I don't think this is the right time to do it.

Agree with your comments about Hibs fans. Respect the silence ourselves, if they choose not to then boo after. But don’t start booing back during it.

Probably best to just lock Huns out the stadium and let them in at kick off. If they miss parts of the game then tough. (No doubt they would still sing outside - Huns and respect don’t go).

It’s not normal circumstances, and if we’re expecting / wanting Rangers fans to behave, we need to do likewise.
If Rangers fans do try to ruin the tribute it just embarrasses their own club. It’s no reflection on us, unless we allow it to be.

The day that bigotry is taken seriously and dealt with is the day that The Rangers will cease to exist. Their whole ethos is based on it, as is Celtic’s for that matter. Both clubs’ boards and management will feign mild disapproval but deep down they absolutely approve and would encourage it if they could.

No idea, but I'd like to think their directors at least felt a bit bad about it. Some of them would have met Ron and I'm pretty sure they would have liked him. Everybody else that met him appeared to.
So on a personal level they maybe they did care.
No one from Hibs would have been at the league cup final. The Rangers directors will all be at ER on Wednesday night though, and I highly doubt the evening will pass without them passing on their condolences and apologising for their fans behaviour previously.
Remember that clubs deal with each other all the time. I doubt they act like we do on fans forums, and our board will have good working relationships with the boards from all the other clubs, including Rangers.
As mentioned above, it's our tribute to RG. Let's not use it to score points over Rangers or their fans. We might be pleasantly surprised with the tribute being treated with the respect it deserves.

Hibs take on Livingston this Saturday (4 March) at the Tony Macaroni Arena in what will be our first match since Ron Gordon sadly passed away in February.
In the warm-ups ahead of the game, both teams will wear special warm-up t-shirts with “May the sunshine of Leith, shine on you always Ron” on the front and “RIP Ronald J Gordon August 1954 – February 2023” on the back.
During the game, the Hibees will mark Ron’s age with the number 68 on their shorts and a commemorative message will also be printed onto our black third shirt.
After the match, these match-worn and match-issue shirts will be auctioned off to supporters with all proceeds going to a charity of the Gordon’s family choice.
Fans will have the opportunity to bid for each player's individual signed shirt during an ongoing auction which ends on Saturday 11 March 2023 at 2pm.

Sunshine on Leith to be played before kick off by the look of it. Club asking supporters to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to kick off and to bring scarves.
Should be a nice moment to not just remember Ron but also the other hibees we have lost in recent and past times.
Pandering to the **** in their support that there is no mention of a minute’s silence (or applause) before the match. Also, says a lot about the difference in attitudes of certain clubs that both Hibs and Livingston wore the t-shirts in the warm-up on Saturday but no mention of Rangers wearing them on Wednesday.

Maybe best not to let thousands of sociopaths further insult our club and the family of Ron,who may well be in attendance.
It would overshadow the respectful minutes silence witnessed at Almondvale.
Best we remember that instead of a possible fiasco.

I totally get why we aren’t having a minute’s silence, knowing full well that it would end up being an absolute disgusting spectacle but it still sums up Scotland that we have to accept that it would be disrupted and therefore not go ahead with it. We only play it after wins v them or the OF, think the last time that happened was 2-0 v Celtic under Lennon (December 2018) - so just over four years.
We're currently on a 22 game run without a home win v Celtic, Rangers or Hearts.
That’s a horrible run and one we need to correct very quickly.

If I remember correctly it was played before the first game back after Covid restrictions, at the start of last season.
Santa coloma game, you’re right.
Indeed Mo chara
It does come across that our dear Ron did have close relationships with many players and they will be hurting at his passing.
The best reponse on the football front of course is a rousing winning performance today.
Then on to midweek and send those insolent zombies scuttling home early
Let them walk away ! They dont care ..and neither do we !

WE LOVE RON ♥

My great-grandsons first Hibs away game today, as it was his dads at Livi after the Aek Athens game.
Better result this time, please !
thought you’d maybe made a mistake about it being his dads first away just after the aek game Mick, til I thought about it, doesn’t seem anything like that period of time has passed, suddenly felt bloody auld :greengrin

I rethought that and said to myself "are u sure Liam didnt go to an away game before that"
But i could not mind ...22 yrs ago, isn't it?
We left on Hibs bus from Centurian pub with Archie Peffers and Charlie Ainslie's wife who was a good Hibby.
I went to same school as Charlie ,who was Celtic (but use to be Hibs at school and went to games at ER)
Sadly no longer with us
The Livvy game after Aek we blew Livvys record attendance
People sitting on others knees !!Squeezed up on the benches
I think the zombies matched or bettered it later on that season.
Marvellous turn out considering AEk beat us a few days before.

Sorry if I’ve missed but are we having a minutes silence tomorrow pre match?
It’s a shame we’re playing those horrible ***** tomorrow and not literally any other team as we could have remembered him in the best possible way. I even think if it was an Edinburgh derby that 99.9% of Hearts fans would observe it.

It appears that fans are being asked to take to their seats 15minutes before kick off and bring a scarf.
So we are proposing to use the scarfs to hang any zombies that step out of line :greengrin

No confirmation, but such a request suggests a rendition of Sunshine on Leith before kick off, in memory of Ron ,who sadly never heard it sung live at the Holy Ground
Block Seven called for this and apologised that a tifo would not be put together in time. But who knows what mighty occur on the night !
Looking forward to a special, if not quite emotional evening.
Lets hope we put some icing on the cake and cream the zombies.

It was a very nice service.
All the speakers were very good. Particular mention to Rod Petrie who gave a very heartfelt speech and told the story of how Ron came to buy the club, and how he was the pick of many suitors, well. Ron's brother Jimmy gave a very emotional tribute and really painted a picture as to how much the wider Gordon family have bought into Hibs.
