I've been impressed by Ryan Edwards of Dundee United once or twice.

Late twenties, good age for a CH and that's a position we're going to need to be thinking about what we do with over the next few seasons.

Arfield
Arfield might be a possibility as there's rumours he doesn't fit into Beale's plans . Never liked the guy with all his saluting though he is a good player and would be a good signing imo.

I’ve quite liked Charles Dunne when I’ve seen him.

Iacovetti for Ross County was someone I really liked on a couple of occasions, he was a bit ***** last time we played them though so maybe not.

Joe Wright from Kilmarnock was linked with other clubs and someone said we were one of the clubs interested. Can’t say I ever noticed him though.

I wonder if David gray's contract runs out this summer as well as Darren mcgregor's?

Imagine he signs for hibs and salutes the east stand after scoring… has anyone been hit by a missile from their own fans before?[emoji23]

Obileye, Montano and O’Halloran could be worth a punt

O'Halloran has been rubbish for ages. Has never been the same player since his bad experience at Rangers.
Obileye does well against everyone except the OF where he always gets found out. I would rather we went for his centre half partner Fitzwater.
Montano has played some good games but is probably not as reliable as Stevenson.

Agreed, Fitzwater looks the best fit for Hibs on that list.

Would be funny if it was against the Huns though . Can you imagine the rage from the Hun hordes at ER .😂

It does.
The first chance the Ron Gordon regime has had to jettison him and Daz.
Daz is almost certainly gone.
I think Johnson rates Gray and will keep him ... or he could put his wage in the player pot.

The salute is to do with his Canadian roots apparently.

Jack and arfield, never going to happen though.

Arfield will be 35 for most of next season.
Jack is a good player but has chronic injury issues. If Rangers think they can get 25 games out of him next season they will give him a new deal and if they don't it is a red flag.

Has he always done it as part of his celebration or is it a new thing?

Robinson will keep Dunne

Iacovetti - like you I always think he looks solid but I fear we would spot lots of faults if he joined us

Joe Wright had a trial at Hearts in the summer but they didn't fancy him so he ended up at Killie. No idea if he is any good.

He is big and strong and would add some steel to our centre half choices.
However, Dundee Utd have been crap at the back all season.
Is this a failing of Edwards or does he not have enough quality alongside him?

A load of players on that list.
Lots of them will get offered new contracts by their current clubs.
Lots of them are made of glass and lots of them are just plain crap.

If I had to pick one player from the list it would be
Jack Fitzwater
He is 25, a centre half who knows the league and has looked the part any time I have watched him.

Is Dylan Reid at St Mirren any good? Highly rated I believe and broke through at 16. Still only 17, although don’t know anything about him.

There’s a few players that would help add depth, Ginelly, Fitzwater, Omeonga, Iocavitti etc. However I’d probably rather continue the clear out, sign 2 or 3 quality starters and supplement the squad with 5 or 6 of the U19s.

Dylan Reid is away to Crystal Palace I think…
Arfield could be worth a punt but might get a better offer from our neighbours.

Jack and arfield, never going to happen though.

They won’t get the protection from refs that they currently get if they signed for us so wouldn’t be as effective but still good players.

I've not really been paying close attention tbh.

It might have been the game when they beat us 3-0 at Easter Road the game after we'd played at Ibrox last season when Porto was sent of and the slide under Ross began. We were understrength but were well beaten on that day by a team who were well organised in defence. He was a big part of that defence and arguably the stand out player although he did have the calm Mulgrew next to him.

Obviously there's a danger in signing players off playing well against you once (hiya Rowan Vine) but he was one of the few on the list of names who I can actually remember looking good in a game I had watched, and he plays in a position we're likely to need players for.

Unlike previous years, I actually find it hard to suggest players Hibs should go for these days so I do have a degree of sympathy for the recruitment team. Even players playing well for smaller Scottish teams will find themselves outwith our price range (Kerr at St Johnstone etc) and there doesn't seem to be players like Nisbet or Shankland in the Championship, ripe for the plucking.

Leaving you with folk like Edwards who looks to have a bit of what we lack and might be worth going for?

Josh Mulligan at Dundee? Only 20 and free to talk to other clubs, although they are trying to get him to sign an extension.

Harkes at Dundee United is decent

I think at the very least we should be looking at guys who’ve stood out at other SPL sides (other than Celtc and Rangers).

Harkes barely does anything at this level at Dundee Utd, so why bother with a player like that?

10-02-2023, 01:06 PM
Arfield, Charles Dunne and Omeonga

Would you play Omeonga for Hibs in our next game? Ahead of Jeggo or Newell? No chance in my opinion.

We should be trying to better what we have already.

Omeonga struggled to get in our team in his 2nd loan stint but i think he walks straight into this current midfield.

Same as everybody else, really.
Omeonga (which shows how far backwards our midfield has gone), Arfield, Fitzwater, Dunne, O’Donnell and Obileye all worth looking at.
And McGeady, I suppose.

Hibs still haven't decided.
They were originally speaking about him being with us for a week but it appears they want to look at him some more.
He was a good player but has had a catalogue of injuries so i'm pleased we are assessing him properly before saying yae or nae.
For his sake I hope he gets a deal but only if we think his body will hold up.
Only 13 games to go and the two weeks rest will do Hanlons hamstring good, a game next Saturday and then another 14 day rest till the next game could see him through to the end of the season without any further bother.

I think Devlin is as good an option as we can realistically get for depth at CH right now.

The main thing is that he's there as a back up and hopefully won't play much, if at all, which minimises the risk of him getting an injury.

Should suit him as well as he can ease himself back to full fitness without the pressure of playing which will help him to get another club in the summer.

Have seen Harkes have some good games against Hibs.

However as in the past players who have good games against Hibs don’t always carry that on when they sign for Hibs.

Have wondered why Steven O’Donnell’s estimation at Motherwell has gone down.Would he be worth a one year deal.

I've been reading this thread as it developed... I can't quite pin it down but I've got this feeling that if players are not good enough to get a contract anywhere else in Scotland (uglies excepted I guess) then unless it's to fill a major gap we have... they're not good enough for us either?

He can’t get a game ahead of Paul McGinn, a lot of people on here are saying he is worth a punt, maybe because of his Scotland games a few years ago but for me we should be looking for better

Expiring contract doesn’t mean not good enough to get a contract. It could be they have been offered one and have turned it down.

If all the players mentioned are out of contract at the end of the season, why has no other clubs tried to sign them on a pre-contract???
Is it down to money or is it they are not that good???

We don't know that they haven't? They could be waiting to asses their options in the summer.
