Jesus H Christ, awful idea. Cleese has become a right whingy bore in his old age sadly.
The original series is amongst the best programs ever made.

Disaster written all over it.
It's going to be an 'anti woke' ****show designed to appeal to the GB News crowd, that's the audience Cleese has nowadays. The risk is it ends up tarnishing the original as well.

Having a new Fawlty towers without Sybil Fawlty, Manuel , Major Gowan and a few more characters that was in the original series will never work .

Another show which I see is being rebooted with only the main character featuring regularly is Frasier. Another case of leaving well alone I reckon.

The Fraser reboot intrigues me, I loved the show first time around and was a big fan of cheers too. I see Nick Lyndhurst is playing an old college buddy of Fraser's which should be interesting. By the sound of it, it is going to be more about Frasers son (given a good few of the announced cast relate to his sons college experience, ie his roommate, head of faculty etc). They are going to pay tribute to John Mahoney (Martin Crane) in the show too. It is a shame they can't convince Hyde-Pierce to appear as Niles again but they have plonked his son in as a character so I suspect we will get a few of his funny behaviours and mannerisms. If they can get some of the same writers from the first one it could be great. The danger is many if not all re-boots have fallen flat on their faces, the Will & Grace reboot was cancelled almost as soon as it started and the That 70s Show reboot is ok at best, the Roseanne reboot was a ******-show from start to finish. I will keep my fingers crossed but won't get excited about it.

I wonder if the people involved with Frasier are deluding themselves that because it happened once, it can happen again.
Frasier is arguably the greatest spin off in TV history, it's certainly up there. It took a major character from a successful show and grew it into a great comedy in it's own right. There are plenty examples to prove that isn't easy to do. I'm sceptical they can repeat the trick with a reboot but I'll probably give it a chance just in case.
I always think there is a lot to be said for leaving an audience wanting more. It's probably why Fawlty Towers is so fondly remembered, it went out on a high. I wish the Still Game return never happened and I'm sure I'll feel the same about the FT reboot as well.

Arguably the bits of Fawlty Towers that were most funny and memorable, wouldn't be allowed now. Should really leave this one alone.

At its best Frasier was more than just the greatest spin-off, it was up there with the finest comedy shows ever. While Grammer was superb, it was the supporting cast's overall brilliance (not forgetting Frasier's apartment - almost a character in itself) which gave it that extra edge. I think without them any attempt to revisit past glories will most likely fail. Like you, though, I'll maybe give it a chance.

I can't see this being very good , his previous sitcom , Hold The Sunset got fairly mixed reviews. He should stick to doing voice work in animation nowadays
