Those mind readers who should've known better aye?
Folk can only form their opinions based on the evidence they have at the time. There is rightly a lot of frustration at Ron's failings as owner. That being said, this thread is nothing to do with that.
I wish him all the very best. Hope he comes back stronger.

Here's the text of the letter:
Dear Supporters,
Some of you may have noticed that I have not been at Easter Road in some time. I love the Club and I love Edinburgh, and I come to our home in the city as often as possible and go to as many games as I can. That is why I’m writing this letter to you all to explain why I’ve not been around as usual.
For most of this past year I have been receiving treatment for cancer. It has been a difficult time for me and the family, but I’m blessed to have their love and support as we navigate through the challenge. I imagine many of you will have gone through similar times in your own families. We all stick together to get through these difficult times. Unfortunately, my treatment has made international travel a little more challenging as I’m sure you will understand.
However, while undergoing the treatment I’ve remained in daily contact with our Chief Executive Ben Kensell, who continues to run the club with the support of the Board. That will remain the case as we continue to move forward on a variety of initiatives to further advance the club.
I want to assure you all that our family’s commitment to the club’s long-term success remains absolute, and I will be back with you at Easter Road as soon as my treatment allows.
I realize that our men’s team has gone through a challenging time on the pitch - it was disappointing for all of us to go out of the Cup to our city rivals. However, the result and performance against Aberdeen showed that we can be a real force in this league once we manage to achieve some consistency. There have been mistakes, but we are learning from them, and we are working to put things in place to be better going forward.
I am very grateful and fully appreciate your continued support of the team and the club. As you know, it will take all of us working together to help the club achieve its goals on and off the pitch, so your commitment and engagement is both necessary and very welcomed. As always, thank you for your support and your trust, and I wish all of you the very best for 2023.
Ronald J Gordon, Executive Chairman

Just a friendly reminder to keep this one civil. Cancer will be an emotive topic for almost everyone on here for one reason or another.
Much of the criticism of Ron Gordon predates the last few weeks and this announcement so can we avoid using it as a point scoring excercise.
This isn't a thread anyone wants to have to delete posts from or issue warning and bans so keep it respectful.
Thank you.

Terrible news to wake up to over here in Oz.
I thought something was amiss due to Ron’s silence recently….he’s not the kind of guy to go missing when times get tough, unless there is a very good reason for it.
Cancer touches most of us in some way, and although a diagnosis is terrible to take, it does not mean that it is the end of the world.
My wife was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2018, and had half a lung removed, but is now fitter than me and still gets up at 2am to watch Hibs Tv on match days.
So if you are reading this Ron, nothing but good thoughts emanating from the city where you went to school in, to go with those from others right around the globe.

I supported Ron for most of his tenure, but recently have wanted him to sell up. The club has nosedived under his ownership, and mistake after mistake on the playing side is his fault as he is the owner, the buck stops at him.
I had no idea he was this ill, i'd seen some posts alluding to it, but until today i had no idea it was this serious.
Get well soon Ron, hope you manage to get back and take the club where you and we all want.

Ah crap, that's grim news.
I can't quite believe - and it's very impressive - that he has taken the time in amongst a difficult statement like that to say that "There have been mistakes, but we are learning from them...". Sounds like it's been a long hard battle for
Ron already and its not done yet.
As someone who has a milder inoperable cancer I've spent the past two years volunteering for a cancer charity. I've met so many patients much worse off than myself.
The physical battle is hard enough but the biggest challenge is the uncertainty.
Will surgery work? Will chemo work? Another round, can the body take it?
All we can do is send Ron, Ian and their family the most positive of messages and for those who have a faith, let us pray 🙏

We can all cristicise the owner of the club we support if it's not performing how we would like, it's part of football and it's on page one chapter one of 'the perils of buying a football club' ... it doesn't make you a bad person to do it and it doesn't need an apology.
But that isn't real life ..... THIS is real life ... Above all Ron is a human being, and from what I can see a decent human being, he is also one of our own and no matter our opinion on where the club is just now all we can and should do is wish him all the very best and pass on our good wishes to his family.
So all the best Mr Gordon for a full and speedy recovery, hope to see you back at Easter Road soon.

Imagine being one of these knobheads saying "Ron has been anonymous lately, where is he?!? Coward, asset stripper" etc etc
Hope he has a quick and successful recovery and maybe some folk *might* be a bit less quick to judge as a result of this
Absolutely no need for this.
Nobody would have been saying anything of the sort if they'd known, and everybody wishes him well, as can be seen on this thread.
Apart from you. You're first thought is to have a dig at Hibs fans. Nice. What a thread to do it on.
Are you suggesting nobody can criticise anybody in future in case they're ill? That's an utterly ridiculous position to take. Knobish really.
Get well soon Ron.

All the best to Ron
Contrary to popular belief he does care about the club. As do the rest of the board
A chant of There’s Only One Ron Gordon at the game today would be a nice touch

The thing you should really take away is that our players, managers, owners are all human beings and while they may be doing a **** job or a great job, they have things going on in their lives that are bigger than football.
So criticism is fair when things aren't going well, but maybe people should just tone it down a bit.
Hopefully Ron's treatment goes well and he can come back to Edinburgh soon.

Awful thing to deal with - my brother and mother died of it within weeks of each other a few years back. Wish him all the best and hopefully a quick recovery.
sorry to hear of this SOH. Awful disease - my father in law passed just before COVID with pancreatic cancer - horrible. Blessing and a curse that my wife could be back home with him to nurse him through his final weeks. Her brother now is just recovering from surgery. Fingers crossed. Best wishes to everyone effected by this terrible disease.

I suspected something was amiss as Big Ron has been very quiet this past year.
As he acknowledges in his letter, he has made mistakes. However I don't think there's reason to doubt that his intentions have been honourable from day one - and remain so.
I'd like to express my support for Ron and his whole family right now and would call on my fellow Hibees to temper any criticism with sympathy and understanding. Much criticism has been levelled at Ian Gordon's role in recruitment at Hibs with accusations of nepotism. I think though that we may grow to appreciate and value that Ian has been so involved at Hibs over this last couple of years - giving him a foundation of experience and working knowledge of Hibs that may well prove invaluable in future.

I agree but don't let us deviate from who and what the thread is about Ron and his battle with cancer
I'm not deviating in the slightest! As someone who has lost two brothers to cancer,I'm well aware what Ron and his family are going through.
I wish him all the best,in his battle against cancer.

My point was that nobody should sing theses types of songs it's completely unacceptable, regardless who it's about.
I'll leave it there!
