Maloney wants more

In addition to trying to tempt former club Hibs to part with Kevin Nisbet and Josh Campbell, Shaun Maloney also wants some of his old backroom team to join him at Wigan.

Hibs first team coach and Scottish Cup winning legend David Gray is wanted by Maloney as his no2.

I hope not.

Why not? Let him go and get experience as a no 2 in championship and ready him for taking top job at Hibs in a few years.

At the moment he’s probably no 4 in chain of command at Hibs.

If he did go then the ideal candidate is already on our books to replace him in his role. We just promote Daz

Heard Maloney is trying to get Sunshine the Leith Lynx, the kit man, and two west stand macaroni pies in as well. He’s trying for everything else too.

I love Daz, but I’d rather we kept SDG in his role based on a few things I’ve heard. And that is meant as praise for SDG rather than anything negative towards Daz.

Surely Wigan is about the last place Campbell would want to go.

Maloney was absolutely determined to ruin him by trying to play him as a 6 when that is never his game.

Graham Barrow has returned to Wigan as his assistant manager.

:agree:

Would be a good move for SDG if he was going down as assistant. I’m not sure if that would be the move he’d be making though.

He'd disappear off the radar after Maloney makes a pigs ear of the Wigan job. I'd rather he stays with us.

If SDG wants to risk shortening his coaching career, he'll join SM until the end of the season. Then he could be stuck looking for his next role.

Maloney does rate SDG but it’s not happening. Johnson rates him too.

He’ll never disappear if our radar. There will always be a place for him at Easter Road.

Even if Maloney does not succeed (which I’m sure we are all hoping he does), would be a great experience for David Gray. He could be our eye in the camp at Championship reserve games as well for potential young talent.

Agree, I know money talks but Shaun Maloney was absolutely clueless. Anyone who moves to Wigan will probably risk having to impress another new manager by the autumn.

You’d think Maloney would want to try and block out any memories from his time at Hibs🤷🏼

Not a chance SDG will move his family, they could not be more settled.

SDG won't be on anything like the money Gerrard is on though.

Can't see SDG going to Wigan , a badly run club that's bottom of the league and after appointing a rookie manager that's not very good either . Wigan will imo get relegated and Maloney will be sacked eventually.

What’s so funny? Plenty of footballers, managers, coaches don’t uproot their families when they move to other clubs.

I'll give Maloney until the end of the season before he's sacked. Taking over another toiling team wont do him any favours.

Poor appointment. Sorry Wigan fans this is not going to be a fun chapter for you.

I never want to see David Gray in charge of hibs, let him just be the legend he is and leave it at that.

I'm not sure an unsuccessful spell as manager would really harm his reputation unless he'd gone elsewhere and managed and been a huge success.

Bit of an exaggeration there.

You never get two macaroni pies in the west
