Someone posted up a photo of the stadium on a Facebook group I’m on, the first time I’ve seen a picture of the stadium.
This Evening News article gives some context.

I’m not sure how to post up attachments so if this doesn’t work can I send this to a moderator?

Do you have a link for the Facebook article or even just the page?

I’d also like to see a clearer image and the text, and sharing these things often results in pixelisation which is a real nuisance.

The copy I have is readable, is there any way of posting it up in larger resolution? it’s an interesting read and the picture is much clearer.

It’s posted in a thread I opened talking about the stadium, I was astonished when someone posted it up,

^ Here's another attempt at the link - it's interesting. I've seen the Northfield ground on the National Library of Scotland maps website too. Don't have time to check just now - if nobody else puts up a link I'll look later :aok:

There's definitely been a thread on here in the recent past about the ground and reasons behind it.

First time I have seen the photo but it has been discussed a few times on here. It is clearly shown on the old maps of the era. Here is one (https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=16.4&lat=55.95470&lon=-3.13834&layers=217&right=ESRIWorld) that shows the position and you can see on the other side todays landscape

There was a glass factory on this land when I was growing up. It’s now housing and I lived in one of them a while back.

As much as I love our history and identity. Ive always thought it was a shame we built Easter Road so close to a cemetery. Would have been the perfect place to put HTC.

Interesting that we considered a move to Pittodrie. Jeez we would have ended up with Jim Goodwin as manager

Yes, it was ours and we never played there. We managed to dispose of the lease the greyhound racing or similar.

The North British Railway brought a court order to stop it being used as a football stadium because they claimed they needed the land at the east end of the stadium for railway works, works that were never started, the one thing that remains as a legacy of the stadium is the bridge over the railway at Fishwives Causeway that was built ti provide access to the stadium.
There were also concerns that the actions brought to stop Hibs using Northfield were sectarian and designed to bring great harm to the clubs survival, hardly surprising given the social and political climate at that time in Scotland.

As a retired draughtsman these old maps fascinate me, the original map would have been produced by hand and the skill and consistency of the lines and text is just amazing to me. Thanks for posting this. Also I grew up near here in Glenlee Avenue which is one street up from Kenmure Avenue off Willowbrae Road, and at the time this map was produced Glenlee Avenue hadn’t been developed.
