:applause::applause::applause:

Thought for such a young lad he did very well today. He'll face tougher tests, but he should be proud of his efforts tonight.

Hanlon was talking him through it too... also a LCB & RCB who would have thought that would work better than 2 x RCB :na na:

He looks like a proper no nonsense defender and we looked a lot more secure with cross balls as he won most of the headers

Hopefully he can follow up on this with some consistent performances. Delighted to see him get a goal and clean sheet today. Would have done his confidence the world of good.

He was up there for MOM for me if Josh hadn't got a hattrick. Defended like a proper defender. Won loads of headers in our box. Had a great game, I really think playing beside Paul helped him through today

He had a few moments in the first half when he dithered on the ball. After that anything that came his way defensively was just booted as high and as far away as possible.

An excellent performance.

For all the love that’s been given to Porto and Rocky this season at times this was the most commanding centre half performance I’ve seen from a Hibs player this season.

Thought his timing in the air was fantastic.

I thought the defence was a lot more settled and less erratic today. Fish was good, played sensibly and positioning was good which I think we’ve lacked in that position.

He overhit most forward passes / pints but his defending was spot on so no complaints. He can pleased with a good display.

Cleared his lines and headed everything. Arguably all you need from a centre half but the clearances could become frustrating when there are simple passes on.

Still learning his trade so it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on. Glad for him today though, clean sheet and a goal.

Hopefully this puts to bed the lazy “another Nathan Wood signing” that I’ve heard a few times now regarding Fish.

Nathan Wood was like a deer in the headlights in his only Hibs game, Will Fish has always looked a lot more confident and capable (derby mistake aside). A lot to learn but has the foundations of a good player.

Granted Aberdeen were a fairly poor opposition but interesting to see if Hanlon and Fish can establish a good defence pairing.

Maybe we are seeing the benefit of playing a centre half as a centre half, take note LJ, very respectable performance from the young guy today, well assisted by Paul Hanlon.

LJ stressed in his pre match interview that Fish and Hanlon train together all the time so it was no big issue playing them together . 2 big away matches this week so hopefully neither have fitness or other problems . Presume Fish won`t be with us next season but will be till the end of the season . Great that he scored today , I remember Jordan Foster scoring a few for us but Porto , Rocky and other defenders in recent years haven`t so great to have a defender who scores a few goals each season .

Delighted for Fish today capping a very solid performance with a well taken goal.
He benefited today from being played in what's surely his favoured position of CH (never a right back as shown at tynie) and also playing next to a seasoned campaigner like Paul Hanlon - who's influence shouldn't be understated.

Thought Hanlon was excellent at guiding him through the game today - Fish was excellent at clearing his lines and keeping it simple.

Defence looked far more calm and assured without Ryan in there - yes, it’s a dig at Porto - because I always felt he played for himself. Today they looked a cohesive unit. Aberdeen were poor but the whole back line never ever looked flustered or pressured. Hanlon steadied things in there.

Some of his sloppy passing annoyed me, but he won a tonne in the air and I think he’s going to be one of those ‘defend first’ defenders. And as others have said, has looked decent in games before now too.

Maybe we shouldn’t write players off after a couple of games and also shouldn’t declare them to be the messiah after 1 good performance?

I agree. During the game I was thinking that his distribution was something he badly needs to work on as it wasn't anything like as good as Porto's.

Otherwise he did well and it's great that he scored. Tuesday will tell us more, unless we've brought someone else in by then.

He was excellent and well aided by Hanlon, was on the end of everything thrown into the box and clearing headers well out of danger area. Top display, clean sheet and goal in the backdrop of coming into it knowing practically whole stadium of doubters. Great mentality, hope it is his turning point

He got the ball forward quickly and allowed us to get Aberdeen on the turn and stretch their defence, especially useful when we have the pace and skill upfront that we have. But primarily he defended the box well.

Hoping he can continue to build on this. Guessing we don't have an option at the end of his loan to buy?

Won a few good headers and tackles but thought he was really bad on the ball especially when under pressure.

Fell over or booted it out for a thrown in a couple of times when he'd initially been in plenty space then got closed down.

I can live with that in comparison to what we’ve seen for much of the season. We’ve lost countless goals to crosses this season but he was really dominant in our box I thought.

Fair point but I think/hope the calmness under pressure will come with more game time. As a CH first and foremost is to defend effectively. Darren McGregor was a very good defender for us but don't ask him to do a lot in terms of effective distribution. Am sure Fish has that in his locker otherwise he would not be on the books of Man Utd but he needs to be playing more for that to come out but a promising start.

As an aside I also liked Hanlon going over and having a word with Miller when he got caught in posession (we did get a free kick out of it), you could tell was constructive criticism and Miller acknowledged it.

Hanlon can do a lot in developing both of these players but of course we still need a first team ready CH.

Bad on the ball? He hardly misplaced a pace or over hit a ball over the top all day. I think I saw one in the first half. Very effective at everything he did yesterday and a goal thrown in fur good measure. You can see why he got a new deal before heading up here.

Plenty good teams have has the footballing defender and the defending defender. Ferdinand and Vidic is a decent example from relatively recent times.

I don't have an issue with a defender who wins headers, roughs up opposition forwards and just clears his lines when he's not comfortable doing anything else. He could be a bit neater in possession but he was no nonsense for the most part and a few passes were decent ideas just overhit.

I'd be happy to see him get a run of games now.

Very good performance from the laddie, the type of no nonsense centre half we have needed for a while.
Put defending 1st , won a lot of headers cleared his lines and got a goal.
Suited Hanlon better to play behind them.
