He had 16 games left of his contract. Decent money that.

6 months left on his contract, leaving for zip in the summer anyway?

Reasonable deal

Seems reasonable enough to me.

All things considered, if we actually got £450k for him, I'd be happy enough.

How much did you expect?

I’m surprised we got that much considering Watford could have waited till summer and got him free? They must be desperate for him

450k will be chump change to Watford.

Maybe, but no-one spends more than they have to.

You're not going to spend 85p for a Mars Bar at Tesco if you can get it for 65p even though 85p is "chump change", are you? 😃

Yes, but what if the 65p Mars Bars are all sold out due to demand? Or what if it's not worth the cost of travelling the additional distance in order to obtain one? :cool2:

There may have been other clubs interested in Porto that we're not aware of. So by paying this fee, they were basically securing him.

Comparable to what Hearts wanted from Rangers for Souttar last January I think. IIRC it was £500k.

Yeah and nobody paid that! Plus we have a sell on fee he he does well could get a decent slice of it

Maybe willing to pay that now rather than risk not getting him in the summer

First thought is that some people will complain about anything.

Second thought is with contract expiring very soon we've managed to at least get some money for him

Third thought? Get out more and cheer up

I have absolutely no idea what you mean! :greengrin

Hibs didn't receive any better offers so Watford paid what was needed. Why would they pay more even if they could afford it? Chump change or not, that was what they needed to pay.

600k and a sell on clause is very good in the circumstances.

£300k potentially rising to £500k, chump change, we need to be doing far better than that, he should've been sold last summer at the very latest, we need to be realistic in pur expectations, the only way a player will look to stay with us for any length of time is if they aren't very good enough.

Anyone good enough will be off to earn £10k a week elsewhere, be in Glasgow, England or Europe, we need to be more proactive in that sense and work with the a youth player or a new signing and their agents from the day they sign their main contract at Hibs, if it's a 4 year deal then let them know we're only expecting 2 years, 3 max from them, we'll not stand in their way should realistic offers are made.

Porteous has a high ceiling, he has so much potential but he has a lot left in his game to iron out, I hope he reaches that ceiling, just realised Julian Dicks is the assistant at Watford, he was a man who played on the edge and often went over the line, wonder if he can help him channel his energy in the right way.

He's gone, we move on, however just can't wrap my head around the fact he was meant to be one of us and didn't sign a new deal to get us more cash, yes hibs had the chance 4 years ago, we should definitely learn from that * see laidlaw, O'connor and Johnston* bitter definitely. Still good to get 600k plus sell on fee.

So to confirm:

It's 450k which isn't enough, but we got less than that, of £300k + 200k of add ons, but actually we got 650k.

Summary, almost no one knows.

It was Stephen McGowan I got my figure from, he sounds like he's terrified anytime he's asked anything on the radio but he seems on the ball with Scottish transfers

I think we can all agree that the deal is in the region of £0 to £999k.

Probably, but it undervalues him as a footballer. Hopefully this will turn out to be more lucrative for Hibs down the line.

Watford are 3rd in the Championship. In 5 months time Porto could be at an EPL club. Any future transfer could be £5-£10m so we can only hope the sell on clause is attractive.
