Absolutely astonishing how far we’ve dropped since then in every possible aspect.
Teams with identity and a genuine excitement to go and see.
Let’s hope a DoF isn’t far away and we get back to times like in that video.

Grant Holt's performance after he came on at Hampden was superb. One of the best days that I've seen Hibs fans rally around the team even in defeat.

100%
He’s one that I was thinking of watching that video and speaking about identity.
He had a fantastic career and came to us in his latter stages but immediately understood the club and seemed to really buy into it.
We need more of that, guys that come in and just love the club. Fair enough the club need to do more to make it a loveable place but just overall.
I think that’s what hearts are doing well at the moment and it’s through simple simple things like recruiting players that know the league and the club.

In all my years following Hibs its always been up & down with more downs and I could probably say the same for most of the clubs in the Spl,there's a bigger picture in Scotland and our form is similar to pretty much every other club in Scotland ( outwith Rangers/Celtic ) over the last say 30 years. The league is virtually impossible for any club to grow outwith Rangers/Celtic , the league set up in Scotland is utter gash if it continues in its current form all clubs will be having these same gripes 30 years from now, just find these video's bit tedious continually going over old ground.

That game is a bit like the 5-5 with Rangers. When people celebrate it like some sort of achievement it makes me cringe. Celebrating failure. The semi with Aberdeen we were 2-0 down while people were still queuing to get in. Another pathetic let down. If our identity is losing games of football or throwing away three goal leads then i want us to have another identity.

We went through a real period of signing what I would call the right type of characters. Guys who came in, understood the club, bought into what we are trying to do and built a near instant rapport with the fanbase. They weren't all great players and they weren't all the same type of player or personality either. I think Hibs were much better selling players to us back then as well, they really put an effort into helping us get to know them and understand then. I couldn't tell you the first thing about a lot of our current squad and that doesn't help build any kind of chemistry either.
Guys like Fontaine, Bartley, Keatings, Henderson, Bogdan, Holt etc etc all seemed to just get it. None of them were superstars for us but even before the cup win I reckon the former 4 would still be remembered fairly fondly. Someone like Malonga was a divisive character but he got it; 'I don't care about Rangers' and a shrug of the shoulders still makes me laugh years later. We signed some real quality as well in the likes of McGinn, McGeouch and Allan but they didn't just rely on their natural ability, they got it too and wanted to engage with the fans, wanted to play in the big games and relished games like the derby. Admittedly the latter did have a little blip first time around when it came to 'getting it'.:greengrin
I also think even when we made signings that didn't quite work out in fairly recent years you could understand the thinking behind them. Stevie Mallan wasn't a bad signing, it just didn't quite happen for him here. Likewise someone like Slivka, a full international with a decent number of games under his belt in Slovenia, Netherlands and Italy. Of course a club at our level will always get it's share of duds, for a Liam Henderson there was an Islam Feruz but on the whole I felt we had a bit of identity and a broad ethos on both how we wanted to play and the type of character we wanted at the club.
We need to get back to basics. Our current issues aren't just down to a weak mentality among the playing staff even if I do believe it's part of the problem. I can't imagine any of current players reaction to playing Hearts at Tynecastle being 'lav it'. Ultimately though it wasn't effort we lacked on Sunday, it was quality. The quality to do the absolute basics in football which is keep the ball out at one end and put it in at the other. We need players who are strong enough mentally to do those basics and let their quality shine through on the biggest of stages.

Wasn't quite ready for that this morning and some of the tears that came with it.
Someone needs to make the owner and everyone employed by our club watch this on repeat.

100% agree. This approach to recruitment really shouldn't be rocket science. Ability is one thing, but character is of vital importance too, and we now desperately lack guys who understand the club, the traditions, the history and expectations. The guys you referred to all got it... and a strong connection quickly formed between the players and fans. They also had a winning mentality.
Any recruitment team should do their homework and due diligence on a player before he is offered a contract at Hibs. That's why I dismayed when we signed McKirdy to be honest. I feel bad to single him out, and I still hope that he might come good, but his track record had more red flags than the Stretford End! We've signed too many players of that ilk - guys who haven't settled at a long list of other clubs, and probably never will. Recruitment needs strategy behind it and some quality control. Ours has gone to pot... and if it's Ian Gordon or whoever, then it's high time we got an explanation of what the approach and the aspirations are going forward.
We need to press a giant reset button and get back to guys with the DNA required to be a Hibs player. Under Johnson and the current recruitment team, I haven't seen many come in through the door that fit the bill, and that has to change.... FAST.

Yes please.🙏🏻
Mitchell seems to have downed tools, innocuous injury initially hardly kicked a ball since. Seems to be fit but doesn’t fancy it, have to really question his attitude and professionalism.
Omeonga 100% committed to the cause. And was nae Billy big baws either.
