This formation isnae working for me.
Midfielders maybe barring Campbell are never close to getting on the end of anything. Just playing safe balls back or wide
Nisbet needs a partner and service. Not convinced he is good as a lone striker; Hearts marked him out of the game pretty easily.
McGeady isn't an inside forward, a natural left winger all day long.
Cadden loves an overlap, but can't get beyond Yoann
Assuming Porto is away, and Rocky is hurt:
Marshall
Cadden New New Cabraja
New Jeggo Campell/MacGennis/Newell McGeady
Yoann Nisbet
Maybe a bit old fashion, but back to basics, direct and bodies in the box. Yoanns pace over the top.
LJ will be too stubborn to change anything.

Not sure that 442 is the answer but I've never been properly convinced by a Hibs team playing 433 / 451.
And I thought that whilst the front 4 (McGeady, Nisbet, Youan with Campbell in behind) could all consider themselves to have had decent games, collectively I didn't think we looked like scoring.
For all Youan and McGeady's good work - how do we get a goal from what they do out wide against a decent defence? For all Nisbet's graft, did he get a sniff? Did he ever look like he was going to be played in?
Campbell was probably our greatest goal threat with his runs from deep and tbh that's not really all that unusual these days. He was unlucky with his chances.
It's easier to criticise what we do rather than come up with a credible alternative though and it's not hard to pick holes in just about every possible formation with these players.

Imo the initial squad at the start of this season was assembled to play a 442, plus Henderson, who I think was signed to play in behind the strikers, letting us switch to a 4-2-3-1.
We had 2 players in natural positions for a 442.

The set up yesterday is really similar to an old fashioned 4-4-2. Campbell is pretty much a second striker.
There is no magic solution with this group of players. Although I think we’ll be much better with Nisbet playing with big Myk if that’s possible any time soon.

4-4-2 would be asking to be absolutely ripped apart imo.

We’re not playing 442. We played 4231 yesterday. McGeady on the left Youan on the right.

Formations for me only really come in to it when you have a good squad who are good enough to really change tactically what is happening on the pitch there and then.
When it’s a majority of flops on the pitch anyway quality will usually shine through.

Aye and that's what's not working I don't think.

Not a big lover of a 442 but working wonders for Emery at Villa. Few managers can still make it work, think the box 442 is a more common formation now that the traditional 442. 2cms and 2 wide 10's that come inside to offer support, I think we've got the players to play it as well. Newell and Magennis/Campbell as the pivots, Mcgeady and the other one of Magennis/Campbell in the 10's. Nisbet up top as the goal threat with Youan being the striker with licence to drift out wide and in behind.

Youan can't play there.
If we didn't have injuries I could see
Marshall
Cadden rocky hanlon cabraja
Boyle newell jeggo mcgeady
Mykola Nisbet
But with the players we've got fit, it's a non starter.
