I can actually as a young lad at the time remember watching this and feeling so nervous and always thought it was a great sporting moment. Hope you enjoy a trip down memory lane 👍.

As a youngster it was Alan Wells winning Gold at the Moscow Olympics in 1980. In more recent memory Andy Murray winning Wimbledon the first time.

If this is about when you were a kid then a few spring to mind right away, all in 1970:
Brazil winning the World Cup
The Nicklaus v Sanders Open play-off
Lachie Stewart winning the Commonwealth 10,000 meters

Far too many to choose from so I'll stick with Scottish moments
Lachie Stewart 10,000m gold 1970.
Scotland grand slam win against England at Murrayfield 1990.
Stephen Hendry winning 10 frames in a row to come back and beat Jimmy White in 1992 world final.
Stephen Hendry beating him again with a painful fractured elbow 1994.
Andy Murray at last winning a major at the 2012 US open.
Hibs 2016 Scottish cup win.

Edit..one non Scottish, non human classic. Grundy beating Bustino in the 1975 Ascot Gold cup.

During lockdown I started to pen an article on my personal list of ten iconic Scottish sporting moments. I didn't finish it but this post led me to review what I had written and encouraged me to complete it at some stage. Anyway here's my intro and the "chapter" headings.
Ten Iconic Scottish Sporting Moments
The recent coverage of Sandy Lyle’s Masters victory in 1988, which I consider to be the most magical of Scottish golfing moments in my lifetime, led me to ponder what other such moments in other sports stand out. This is very much a personal list of events in my lifetime across ten different sports, mostly those with which I have an affinity. You may or may not agree; each to his own. But I hope you will enjoy reliving, or for the younger generation imagining, the joy each of these brought to fans of Scottish sport.
I’ll start with Sandy. The rest are in no particular order.
GOLF - SANDY LYLE WINS THE MASTERS, Augusta, 10 April 1988
FOOTBALL – ENGLAND 2 – 3 SCOTLAND , Wembley, 15 April 1967
This is as far back as I can go, coming as it did just a couple of days before I turned seven, and I will confess to having only the vaguest memories of the game on tv.
ATHLETICS – ALAN WELLS OLYMPIC GOLD 100m, Moscow 1980
BOXING – JIM WATT
CURLING – RHONA MARTIN OLYMPIC GOLD
CYCLING – ROBERT MILLAR TOUR DE FRANCE KING OF THE MOUNTAINS, 1984
“What”, I hear you say, “not Chris Hoy’s exploits?”
HORSE RACING – RUBSTIC WINS THE GRAND NATIONAL, Aintree, 31 March 1979
To be honest this probably wasn’t a classic National.
RUGBY – SCOTLAND 19 – 13 ENGLAND, Murrayfield, 2 April 2000
Maybe another controversial choice but as occasions and glorious moments go this one stands out for me personally.
SWIMMING – DAVID WILKIE OLYMPIC GOLD 200m Breaststroke, Montreal
TENNIS – ANDY MURRAY WIMBLEDON CHAMPION,
Michael Jordan - score, stealing the ball back and then hitting the championship winning shot for his 6th title. The man was unstoppable
Liverpool champions league in instanbul
scottish cup 2016, and the following Sunshine on Leith
jonah Lomu at the 95 World Cup - changed the face of the game and what a back could look like and do

Watching Andy Murray win his first grand slam is only just behind watching us win the Scottish Cup for me. Was buzzing about it for ages.

I went to bed when Djokovic took the 3rd set fully expecting to wake up to bad news.
My favourite Murray match was the Olympic final at Wimbers where he destroyed the overwhelming favourite Federer.

Lots of great ones mentioned already. I’d add Super Saturday from London 2012 and Miracle at Medinah. Still watch a lot of these back on Youtube now and again.

Was before my time, but when I took my first job as a lecturer at the University of Surrey, I was stunned to discover that he was a lab tech in the department I was in and I got to know him pretty well during the time I was there. A great guy with some excellent stories about his days as an athlete.
As for the topic, the Ryder Cup's 'Miracle at Medinah' takes a bit of beating for me - against all odds, coming back to win on American soil was exceptional.
Edit: I'd also add New England's win over the Falcons in Super Bowl 51 after trailing 28-3...

How good was that day, forgot all about that or would have added it to my choices. Also Eilish McColgan's recent Gold at the Commonwealth Games, the way the crowd got behind her to will her to push on was tremendous to watch.

I love it and I just knew we'd win when poutler and mcilroy won the night before and the passion poulter showed. Epic momentum swing.
I also was going to mention the Giants winning Superbowl 42 against an unbeaten Patriots team. I'll always remember where I was.
Murray winning Wimbledon has been mentored but epic.

I'd throw Kauto Stars 5th King George into the mix. Simon Holt's commentary was perfect and it was some training performance by Nicholls to get the horse back to close to his best.
The ovation he got in defeat at Cheltenham a few weeks later was special as well. I was there and it was like everyone just forgot there was a race happening for a few moments when he was pulled up. Same happened for Istabraq a few years earlier too.
