Wow,I had no idea he was even ill.

I loved his to-and-fro banter with JamesRichardson on football Italia back in the day, seemed like a wonderful kind person, stylish and cool, great manager, well educated and intelligent, and one of the first of the modern strikers who would press and press all day and do the defensive work as well. And of course, deadly finisher.

RIP.

Think he has been ill for a while and maybe even on the mend only for it to get really bad again the last few months.

RIP Gianluca.

RIP Gianluca.

It was pancreatic cancer, its generally not able to be mended because it generally only presents at a more advanced stage.

There are operations which in some cases can extend your life, but very few people make 4 or 5 years post diagnosis.

Awful disease.

Really sad news. What a player and from that last generation of Chelsea players back when they were a lot of people's second team before they became a Russian plaything.

Very sad news. Seemed a very decent fella too. I remember that Sampdoria team too, they had quite a side at that time.

Of those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, only one per cent are alive ten years later. It's usually only diagnosed after it has already spread elsewhere and is very aggressive.

I wasn't aware Vialli was ill, and 58 is no age. He always had a reputation of being a lovely man, one of the nicest guys in football. Such a shame.

Graeme Souness fighting back the tears when interviewed this morning, said Vialli had made a massive impact on him when they met, Vialli was only 20 and Souness was 31 at the time.

RIP Gianluca, taken far too early by a horrible diseases.

Wonderful player.
Same horrible disease that took my dad 5 years ago. He was 3 months from diagnosis until the end.

It said in the article on the BBC that he had apparently been given the all clear in 2020 but suffered a relapse in 2021.

It's very sad, same illness as Liam Miller. As you say the prognosis is normally pretty brutal.

RIP Luca.

Without a doubt a great player and by all accounts a class act as a person.

If Graeme Souness sees fit to praise you highly you must have been some guy.
