My mate was his dentist in Glasgow. Spoke about him fondly as someone who lived the dream we all had as kids to be a professional footballer. Loved his football and would have happily talked for hours about his playing days. RIP

66 is no age so really sad to hear that.
Some on Brokeback are being less than magnanimous but you would expect that from them

He was on the pitch at Parkhead the last time we were there in October. He was very emotional and knew his time was almost over. Was given a brilliant reception.

As someone who grew up in Paisley, they had a great team, full of young players under Ferguson
I remember Frank more as a St Mirren player than a Celtic one. Made 264 appearance for Saints, and got in the hall of fame

Yes, that was very sad to witness and this mornings news was ultimately no real surprise.
A player from the generation of when I was starting to regularly go, and would have seen him play countless times. By all accounts a decent man. RIP

He did not know me from Adam but through a work colleague he left me a ticket for the Centre Stand at old Love Street for a St Mirren v Hibs game in the early 1990’s together with a ticket to get a half time cuppa and pie ( free gratis ) long after he had left the Saints
A true gentleman

Just had a look on there to see and it’s pretty pathetic stuff. Took me a short while to work out that it’s all to do with 1986 and how half the St Mirren team, including McGarvey, apparently cheated so as to give Celtic the title. They certainly seem to be expecting that any sort of tribute when they play St Mirren next weekend will be disrupted. Pathetic bunch.

An underrated player of that era, was a Liverpool player when I first saw him play (for Scotland), though I don’t think he ever played a first team game for Liverpool.

Is that still their excuse for the Hearts players capitulating when all they needed was a draw?
Sad stuff.

Well according to their message board this evening it was all a conspiracy by the St M team! They’ll never get over it.

Always thought it was more to do with Potter having a sore stomach and declining to play
