View Full Version : How are Benny and Ron doing?

Benny not so good. His Swedish investment company is down 65% from its peak, Baillie Gifford down 60% and his old Scottish Mortgage Trust 55%. Some of his other investments have been hammered - see a link to a wider analysis below, much inline with my early 2022 warning.

Will it mean Benny will stop throwing money at Hearts? I will leave it to the Hibs Net financial gurus to pontificate on that.

What about our Ron? Well his investment in Hibs is worth a lot less because of the weakness of the pound down about 10% after the pound made a partial recovery. The value of the stadium may have gone up in pound terms but the signings have been a bit of a flop. Probably break even on Boyle but only Doig has made money, why there will be pressure to sell Porty. Only succesful signings have been loanees. All this points to a fire sale in January.

If Ron had to sell the club then I'd imagine we would be a reasonably attractive option for a potential buyer as we'd get some decent coin for; Boyle, Porto, Nisbet, Kenneh, Rocky and Magennis. We also have the SJM and Doig sell on fees that would be worth some decent coin when they eventually move on.

Has the value of ER risen since the upgrades to the suites, advertising and infrastructure was completed?

Dunno how we would get ‘decent coin’ for Porteous who may be leaving for sweeties in a week or so, or for nothing in six months

The value of ER will have risen if someone is looking to buy a ready to use sports stadium with modernised corporate and hospitality spaces. There's probably a bit fiddling to be done on the balance sheet in that regard as well.

In reality it's only worth what the land is worth as that's what someone uninterested in the football team would want.

No one is paying money for Kenneh or Magennis. Porto will be gone for a pittance, possibly as early as next week. Boyle’s out with a serious injury ( who knows how that impacts on his future career) and Rocky ‘s transfer worth is highly debatable. I’ll grant you Nisbet, but even then.

Anyone buying Hibs is buying into a football team with a grossly inflated squad with very few saleable assets.

Confirm HIS investment in BG is down 60%? Or BG investments down 60%?

Funny how he’s just given £100 million of his money to James Hopkins Uni in Italy. That suggests he’s still plenty of money and will continue to invest where he sees fit!

Which more than proves that Anderson can afford his involvement in Hearts.

However the donation to the university will at least achieve something substantial whereas it's difficult for an outsider to see what real difference his money is making to Hearts. Last season's third place did get them group stage European football but could have been achieved without his cash and could equally have gone to another club that doesn't have that financial support.

Anderson committed to backing them for a further 5 years when they were ex-communicated a couple of years back. Despite the OP’s non-stop claims/hopes to the contrary, he’ll continue to pump cash into them. The boy is far from skint.

The Johns Hopkins donation is being facilitated by a Signor Ponzi. That's all you need to know.

I've just seen Anderson selling the big issue outside Marks and Spencers, Hearts should be sheiting themselves at their imminent demise.

He’s not, it’s the investment fund he manages for Baillie Gifford. It’s other people’s money he spends. Bit like Hearts, although he’s just better at managing it.

He actually sounds like a decent kind of guy. Plenty of examples of him giving money to good causes. Just a pity that he also gives to one cause that shafted charities, local businesses and HMRC etc. Wish he'd been a Hibby

It was a $100m or £80 million gift. A huge generous gift. Like many philanthropists they do not want to take money to the grave but see it being used usefully. He contributions to Hearts by comparison seem quite small. Hey if you have £400 million and it becomes £200 million and give away £80 million, you are still minted. But you do become a bit more careful about how you spend your money.

Don't forget he gave an undisclosed amount (millions), to the spfl to help clubs during COVID.

Bit of both but it’s knowing the right one to invest in and that’s a team effort! Due diligence and all that!

As you know it’s also about long term investment not a year or so but 5/10 years!
