Scottish championship is looking quite interesting to me this year with only 5 points separating the top five teams .
As anyone any preference who they would like to see win it?
......................... Points ..... Goal difference
(1) Ayr Utd ......... 32 ....................+ 13...........
(2) Dundee .......... 31.................... +8.............
(3) Queens p ........30....................+8.............
(4) Greenock m... 29....................+8.............
(5)Partick T .........27....................+3.............
Ayr and Partick have played 18 games ,the rest 17 .

Personally always had an affinity with Ayr as my wife's family are from the area. Squad strength has always been their problem. I expect Dundee will win it.

Have Ayr not got a good striker now that's scoring plenty of goals? Id quite like to see Queens park myself just because of the ex Hibs connection. Hopefully Ayr , Queens park keep clear of injuries to make it a more exciting championship. Dundee I'd imagine are strong favourites.

Dipo Akinyemi is currently the league's top scorer with 15 goals.

I'd like to see a different club in the top league for freshness so Ayr, Queens Park or even Morton would be fine. Dundee might well do it but I wouldn't call them strong favourites when they've been struggling to top the league all season so far.

Anyone but Dundee please.

Same…a club that’s been in administration twice, but it’s everybody else’s fault they found themselves in that position.

Sounds familiar, eh?

Thanks SDG , was looking at him on tube to see what he was like , looks strong and quite quick , played in lower leagues in England, having a good season at Ayr ,he's 25 year old probably be to much a gamble for us imo

Hardly surprising to see Dempster and Mathie's clubs both punching above their weight.

Few decent away days for us next season regardless who gets promoted.

Queen’s Park coming up wouldn’t be great. They’ll be lucky if Lesser Hampden holds over 1000 by the time the season starts.

Patrick Thistle , can anyone remember a frostbound pitch at Firhill, midweek Scottish cup tie , think we were one up and the game got abandoned.

I think Dundee will win that league but I hope that Thistle do as they're a decent club and it's a great wee trip through.

Probably best to put on the record before May that it's a fantastic league that any team would be lucky to play in. :agree:

Queens Park as I would like to see LD completing the job there. If not then Partick as I have always liked them and their supporters. I've been to quite a few Championship games this year and it is a really competitive League. It is essentially what the top league would be without the Uglies and shows how much those two teams ruin Scottish football

What would the capacity of Lesser Hampden be should Queens Park be promoted?

They look likely to be moving in at some point in the next couple of months and the capacity is apparently only going to be about 800. They were supposed to be building another stand but there was no sign of anything being close to happening when I passed the other week.

So 1500 if they’re lucky.

Did Gretna not have to ground share when they were promoted? Which had me wondering if there's a criteria that has to be met about a promoted teams ground?

Would they not just play at Hampden as they did previously?

I see a few nods toward Partick for promotion but were they not part of the hearts group that went all petted lip about the end of season (demotion not relegation) at the start of Covid? Are we not one of the teams they hate now:greengrin? It is hard to keep up.

Personally I would like to see Ayr promoted just because I enjoy away days down there and I like the ground. If they got promoted they would need to make it all seater though which would ruin it a wee bit.

I knew they shared with somebody but couldn't remember who ? Thanks BW . Think Falkirk weren't allowed to join the top flight one time due to not having enough seats in there ground as well .

They certainly were but they deserved a bit more sympathy than the abject jambos did.

I actually said on another thread here a few months ago defending devt team strategy etc that I fully supported idea of signing lots of talented young players but it would be a very bumpy ride for a few years which might include relegation . I stand by that .

It’s not their ground anymore, they would have to rent it from the SFA

Ah, I get you. Wasn’t fully aware of the ins and out of the Hampden arrangement.

Not championship, but League 1. There were three Peterhead fans in the Hoppy ahead of their game at Meadowbank against FC Edinburgh. Peterhead residents and travel home and away to every game so you can only doff your cap to them. Rooted to foot of table and another defeat today (4-0..)

Is It On....

Ayr also have an ex Hibs connection in Graeme Mathie..

Think I’m correct in saying that the rules have been very much relaxed since the days of the 10,000 all seater rule, but I think they’d draw the line at Lesser Hampden unless they managed to get a raft of temporary stands up.

Would certainly be nice to have somebody different promoted though.

My best man who passed away 6 months after my wedding was a Partick Thistle supporter and I went to a few games with him so I always look out for their results.
