Not seen a thread on this , was a fantastic night last Friday.
John Blackley , Alex Edwards , John Brownlie and Pat Stanton were there , very nice tribute to Jimmy O’Rourke , lots of great stories about the final , other great games and how tight they were as a group.
Good turnout chance to ask them questions get photos and a chance to have a chat with them.
Tornadoes were the team I was brought up with were and still are my heroes
It’s taken me 50 years to get to have a chat with them been star truck in the past , apart from Pat who is aware I don’t think Blackley , Edwards and Brownlie were really aware of the high esteem they are held in by us fans.
1st time in the new hospitality was impressed .

Nice to hear. So sad we lost Jimmy just at the golden anniversary of his truly golden period. 6 hat tricks and 31 goals in half a season is ridiculous!

It was a very enjoyable evening.

A great opportunity to meet my childhood heroes and my inner 10 year old self had me clamouring to get photographs with the players after the event. :greengrin

Just a pity that Jim Herriot had to call off at the last minute and Alex Edwards left before I could get a chance to speak to him.

The meal was lovely too. That spicy soup for the first course was just the job for a freezing cold night.

Well done Hibs for organising the event. :aok:

They spoiled me for the rest of my Hibs supporting time, I was convinced that all Hibs teams would be as good and exciting as the Tornadoes. Oh well.

Great night and yes, I still felt starstuck seeing those heroes of mine from those glory days and that emotional day at Hampden. They spoke about all the other Tornados with respect for their footballing ability and affection. Jimmy’s name was constantly in the conversation.

All incredible players, but i was looking at John Brownlie as he was humbly sitting there and thinking to myself, ‘mate, you were going to be easily one of the finest full backs not just in Britain, but in Europe, before that leg break..’ and he’s sitting thanking everyone for their nice comments.

I was speaking to a (normal) The Rangers fan a couple months back round about my age, and he admitted we were such a good side, but ask any of them who they feared most back then and it was Brownlie. He could literally tear them apart.

Hibs beat them twice in five days in Glasgow four weeks before they won the ECWC

Agree Onion appeared quite modest and unassuming but what a player?

They were all great players

Enjoyed all of their stories all told with respect a mutual admiration and a good sense of humour

They should have won more. I blame Turnbull.
Since then it's been slim pickings.

the real fortunates are those who lived through both the Famous Five era and Turnbulls Tornadoes.

mind you, most of them probably never saw us win a Scottish Cup.

Pretty much how I feel also.

But I would add to that that the same could be said about football in general since those days.

It has completely lost its soul and become dominated by a select few teams with huge amounts of cash.

I found all the Scottish Teams European performances this year particularly soul-destroying.

We used to beat the top teams regularly now we get pumped by the dross

What's the point in Scottish Football anymore?

Think that’s unfair. A year ago Rangers got to the Europa league final beating Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Braga.

There’s a lot of leagues in worse places than ours.

I do prefer Scottish football to the likes of the English Prem as it still feels like real football.

As a young hibbie watching the tornadoes, older guys talked about the famous five like it was the dim and distant past...it was only 20years. Its like talking about Sauzee/Latapy nowadays. No time at all.

even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

Our performances in Europe over the last decade have been shocking with some truly embarrassing defeats among them

I was at this event and really enjoyed the night. Its always a pleasure to be in thr Tornadoes company and hear the mutual respct they held for each other.

it was clear to all that Jimmys passing had clearly upset them all.

Due to painfull mobility problems i cant get out of the house on my own. Nights like these are a welcome distraction and its greay to see my heroes again.

A great night with great friends.

It was my 84 year old dad brother and me that were there . Auld man seen both famous five and the tornadoes , while the famous five were the greatest he had seen Tornadoes weren’t far behind .
He was in his element chatting and getting his photos with Stanton , Blackley and Brownlie .
Heard from Paddy before , Brownlie and Blackley were genuine humble guys who were happy to chat away with everyone and get photos taken .

Guys are legends and then you watch that shower of imposters tonight certainly brings you back down to earth.

Not looking for the 50th anniversary taking place on the pitch! If our team loses a couple of early goals, I hate to think what the final score will be.
