Anyone out there help me find the name of a movie.

All I know it was in a state or county in America where everyone lived until they were 90 years old then had to die.
A small group of them tried to escape and were pursued.

Anyone any ideas????

Logan's Run?

Although think the killing takes place at 30 in that.

You're not thinking of Midsommer. It's not based in the USA though.

Cocoon?

Not seen it, but years ago I stayed at a place in Florida where all the old folk went for the winter (my then girlfriend’s uncle stayed there and we were visiting).

Old people everywhere and I remember my girlfriend saying “this is like being in Cocoon” and she had to explain what she meant.

You could probably file this one in “useless things I’ve memorised” as it was an off the cuff comment made by an ex 20 years or so ago.

I would have got the reference immediately. A kid of the 80s. I’m 42 and lived in the States in the 80s. Watched Cocoon loads. The raisin like alien at the end used to scare me.

Sounds kind of like Midsommar but not set in the USA.

There was an episode of Star Trek with a similar storyline.

The replicants in Blade Runner had a shelf life but it was 4 years, not 90.

I have no idea what the film might be but I am loving this thread. The Internet has largely ruined these kind of discussions and it's giving me pleasant pre-smart phone vibes of pub conversations long ago about football, movies etc that couldn't instantly be solved with Google.

'Bigfoot and the Hendersons'! What happens next?

EDIT - Should have read the OP, not just the thread title

I watched that recently.

Didn't really know what to make of it. I only stumbled across it on Netflix so had no preconceptions. I think it was a bit disconcerting because it had a lot of classic gorefest cliches but rather than being in dark and fog it was set in almost blinding daylight.

I think I enjoyed it but I'm not sure if that makes sense.

I think the Star Trek version was 30 or 35.

I really enjoyed it but couldn't stop laughing at the bit at the end - just kept thinking of the bear from Bo selecta

Why try to escape?

90 is a decent age to get to, and it's guaranteed.

I'd take it, if offered now.

Not if you have to jump off a cliff then get bludgeoned to death if you survive mind you. Sorry for the spoiler. Which brings me back to the OP. Will he ever return to confirm?

I don't get it?

You'd try to escape and could then die at any age, by any means. If you make it to 90, how much longer do you really think you'd have?

I know i'll be fine until my 90th birthday, will probably be pretty frail by that age, had a decent life, and will be ready to jump :greengrin:greengrin

I haven’t seen any of these films but I THINK the idea is that you live forever ‘young’ and healthy until your 90th… and then are forced to kick the bucket.

Your point still stands that it’s a decent innings mind! The execution part not so decent..

Yeah, exactly right.

But if you escape, you lose the guarantee of a healthy life.

I'm assuming the place you escape from is pretty grim with the outside looking like a land of honey, otherwise, stay put.

Also would be a bit of a kick in the baws if you got murdered for attempting to escape…

Can't say I've heard of it but Googled out of interest and it has the best tagline ever:

Live spelled backwards is evil.

I think I'll have to give it a watch now!
