Just heard this. I had a slight acquaintance with him through his biographer. He was a scary but lovely man, and astonishing to see performing live. RIP Wilko.

I went to see him in Glasgow in 2013,in what what was billed as his farewell tour, due to his "terminal cancer ".
It was an intensely emotional gig. For his encore, he did "Goodbye Johnny "... which involved the punters waving bye-bye to him in true punk black-humour style 😉. He finished off by saying "Thank you, goodnight, and goodbye". Not a dry eye in the house.
Then he got better. The **** 😀

Dr Feelgood were excellent live. Too often bands don't live up to their studio recordings but they did.

I remember Milk and Alcohol being in the charts but the pub rock/pre-punk scene with Dr Feelgood, Kilburn and the High Roads etc to the fore (plus of course the Joe Strummer-fronted 101ers) was before my time.

Pretty sure Wilko had left before Milk and Alcohol.

Yes I think you're right. That was the first time I became aware of the band though and it was only later I delved more into their roots.

Pretty sure Wilko had left before Milk and Alcohol.
Wilko had indeed departed by then, to be replaced by the late great Gypie Mayo who I thought was a terrific replacement for the seemingly irreplaceable Wilko.
Wilko was such a fantastic player and performer and I admired him greatly but Gypie brought his own style and for me, played on some of the band most memorable songs, such as Milk and Alcohol.
