My late father inherited a Hibs 1932-33 2nd Division Championship winners medal some time back in the 70s.

22 years ago someone broke into their house and stole it along with all my mum's jewellery. Nothing was ever recovered. As anyone who knows me would tell you, I come from a large family of Dundee United supporters and dad had always promised me the medal as we were the only Hibs supporters in the family.

He died 14 years ago and had never managed to get it back so I missed out on my inheritance. I lost out on a wee bit of my dad. Over the years I have mentioned it to anyone who would listed including Hibs Historical Trust and have even posted about it on here.

Around 10 years ago someone contacted me saying they had been offered a medal which sounded like it but the person selling it never got back in touch with them. He had seen one of my posts on here and I really appreciated him getting in touch.

Three weeks ago a poster on here, who I don't know from Adam and who doesn't want to be named, contacted me to let me know it was for sale on ebay. The police were contacted and an officer from Gayfield Police Station lost and recovery department took up the case. He found the report of the theft from 2000, checked the details with me and contacted the seller advising them it was stolen property. The medal was taken off the site and the Police arranged for its return. The seller who was a trader in Yorkshire, was unaware that the medal had been stolen and had bought it in good faith. I understand the Police will investigate this further on his behalf.

I am now therefore the proud owner of a piece of Hibs history which I will never ever let go. More importantly I have the medal my dad always promised me even if it took 14 years to arrive! I will never ever sell it so don't even ask! It means far too much to me.

Can I just say to the person who tipped me off. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You know who you are and I can't thank you enough and am welling up as I look at it just now.

Also thanks to the Police Officer who dealt with it. I know he is a Hibby and maybe he is looking in. i appreciate everything.

It just goes to show, persevere and you will get there in the end.
