Lochee United have appointed Hibs first-team scout Kevin Harper as their new manager.

The 46-year-old takes over at Thomson Park following the departure of George Shiels.

He parted ways with the club after seven years, along with assistant Ray Farningham last month.

The former Easter Road star will now look to continue the Dundee side’s push to for the professional leagues.

Lochee ‘vision’ sealed move

Harper said he hadn’t initially considered another step into management but was sold by Lochee’s vision.

Yep. They're a good club and do a lot of good for the community, but that's a ****ing horrendous way to treat someone.

Hope Kev's still got good relations with Hibs and that he might be able to return to his job here.

Can't imagine that they'd have hired him without agreeing on a figure. A really ****ty way to treat someone if they've gone back on it, and I say that as someone with a soft spot for the club (excellent steak and gravy pie)

It says the decision to hire him was done without being ratified by the club's committee which suggests that whoever did agree the contract Harper signed wasn't qualified to make such a decision.

And it’s amazing to think that, having appointed Kevin they still think they’ll be better off getting rid of him and bringing in someone else.

Sounds like this one has got longer to run yet.

Not the first time Kevin has been involved in a very short appointment.

A few years ago he was appointed head coach of one of the lower NEw South Wales league teams in Australia

I was surprised at the time that he would have taken a job with them…as they were basically a public park outfit a couple of years earlier.

I remember he arrived in the middle of a Sydney summer with temperatures nudging 40 degrees.
About a week later he chucked it and jumped on a plane back to the UK.

The word up here in Dundee is they offered him 25 grand per year. Seems huge for a junior team.

They're now in the sixth tier of the pyramid and are one of the few teams in there with a license allowing them to be promoted to the Highland League. Clearly ambitious.
