Great map. One thing that strikes me is everyone in Edinburgh would be close to lots of green land. Its a shame that now there will be inner city children that spend almost no time in wildlife

How do you find your district MY? Don't really do maps, like ever. I just stop people and ask for directions. haha, I'm imagining you shaking your head in despair right now.

I grew up in the new town, Stockbridge and Dean village area, having so much green space is what formed me.
Explore the NLS maps, my house is apparent as far back as late 18th century.

Just zoom in on the map to teh area you want and use your mouse to move around. There are two boxes at the top to choose what maps to compare

Thank you very much for this. I am absorbed by it.
The A9 road was Turnhouse Road! Then it stopped for a bit and started again through Kirkliston.

It used to go from Maybury to Kirkliston, before the new runway was built at the airport and the road was severed. Living in Kirkliston now it’s crazy to imagine the A9 passing through.
I’ve often followed the original A9 route on maps. I can vaguely recall the time before it was rerouted round the Falkirk bypass.

These are brilliant. :top marks
Growing up in Currie in the 70s and 80s I remember pre-M8 extension and pre-bypass. Different world really. Edinburgh's centre was lucky to get away relatively unscathed when you see the vandalism that the planners did to the Weedge.

Luckily the EC of the 60's were too inept to execute them.

This looks like it could be really interesting but when I zoom in (not even particularly closely), the old map disappears.
Anybody else having that issue?

Probably depends on the original scale of the map.
I remember from my work days with GIS you could set minimum and maximum resolution.
