One good job! Would rather stick with Lee

Michael O’Neill, what are we waiting for?I`d be delighted if he was named as our manager in the next few days but also surprised . He may already have been offered N Ireland job or have other offers from England or elsewhere . Would he be happy to take over with us mid season with limited squad and some question marks about player recruitment ? One of bosses of Hearts donation thing had big role in Northern Ireland FA at time he was their manager so given his non football business interests in Edinburgh he might even think he`ll get a better offer from Hearts when Neilson is sacked or leaves for a new challenge .

He’s the obvious choice, knows the Scottish game, experienced, ex player, remember all the folk that said no way Lenny would come, had better options and we couldn’t afford him blah blah.

His record isn't all that. Emptied by Stoke recently for constantly finishing in the bottom half of the table and a poor start to the 22/23 season.

But see my post above . Also , who chooses our managers ? For example , would Gordons , Kensall etc know about how some supporters might feel about appointment of managers who are ex players of certain teams ?

Can I ask why he’s the obvious choice ? His style is awful and despite Hibs playing career and his Edinburgh connection, definitely not for me. Doesn’t excite me one bit, far from it, think it would be more of the same. Added to which there’s a real danger he’d bring that utter clown MacPhee with him.

Is he actually a decent manager?

Well let’s look at that, so he led Shamrock Rovers to win the 2010 League of Ireland title, their first league championship since 1994. He also won the 2011 Setanta Sports Cup and then made history by being the first manager of a League of Ireland team to reach the group stages of a European competition. As manager of Northern Ireland they qualified for their first ever European Championship, Euro 2016. It was the first time in 30 years that Northern Ireland had qualified for a major tournament. When he joined Stoke they were bottom and he steered them clear of relegation, mid table finishes after that.

Overall, I’d say yeah that’s pretty impressive and certainly a hell of a lot better than we’re used to of late wouldn’t you?

Not really. Stoke fans were sick of his incredibly defensive style ages ago, remember reading one of their forums and they were pretty unanimous in thinking he had to go.

Also can't really judge Int football/club football. He's not a terrible manager, but he's by no means good either. Doing anything in Ireland doesn't make you a good coach, the standard there is very poor.

Who cares?

And my above sentence is the exact problem with Hibs just now. Fans are stopping caring because we know the next manager will be let down as well.

Can’t judge international football, why not, so Steve Clark’s Scotland record doesn’t mean anything, taking a league of Ireland side to the group stages in Europe doesn’t count either, come on.

Wouldnt exactly say he's an absolute standout candidate

I thought the same when we were last hiring a manager with O'Neill too - something about him just makes me think he wouldn't work

If we were to punt Johnson I honestly wonder what sort of candidate we would be able to attract, let alone an absolute standout one.

As things stand we're a club in pretty rapid decline, considering where we were as the 2020/ 2021 season finished.

Recruitment is pish, we churn through managers blaming them for shortcomings elsewhere, we have players on long contracts who will be a nightmare to move on and the owner's son playing some sort of murky, undefined role in the club somewhere.

To be honest, if I was a manager on the way up or someone with a modicum of self-respect, I wouldn't be touching it with a barge pole.

Tend to agree, though that team selection again today was brutal and that's on him

Met a Stoke city fan over here and I asked him what he thought of Micheal O'Neill ' he told me his style of football was very defensive and bloody awful . Only a opinion from one fan though.

We'd never give him the patience he needed with NI.

His NI options, limited as they were, didn’t amount to choosing a midfield from Newell, Campbell, JDH, Kenneh & Henderson. No amount of patience will see any other result than getting sacked. See Ross, Maloney and with Johnson about to go the same way. Our 34 year old left back is probably still our best midfielder. Patience isn’t the main issue IMO.

Lewis is clearly not a better midfielder than Joe Newell. Even Lewis would laugh at that.

Certainly didn't know the English game, sacked by Stoke so not sure what value in this has to know the Scottish game??
