On this day 10 years ago Hibs beat Dundee Utd 2-1 at Easter Road to go back to the top of the league, Celtic drew with St Johnstone later in the day so we stayed there for the rest of the week. After 13 games we had 24 points. Unfortunately we only won 6 of our remaining games and finished 7th.
No real point to this post, just something I came across this morning and thought it was quite interesting. Have we, or anyone else other than those 2, been top of the league as late as November since?

Honestly have no recollection of us being top of the league in that season.

Did hertz not have the league won by November about 3 years ago?

Remember the game well for some reason. Felt like a new dawn after the horror of the previous season. Griffiths was incredible and we had that brilliant bottle green home kit.

That was one of the great non-OF/Hearts games - really good goals, felt like it meant a big deal, aggro in there as well...
I don't think I've ever heard a stadium collectively keech themselves in such a way when Skacel hit the bar late on.

Hearts under Burley before Mad Vlad decided to do his stuff? Can't remember the exact year, I remember being in a boozer in Aberdeen before a game up there the day that he got emptied.

I was in hospitality that day courtesy of our very own Frazerbob, managed to have Riordan first scorer too! 🍻

Griffiths scored a cracking volley in that game if it’s the one I’m thinking of? We beat Celtic at ER around Christmas that season too IIRC. Jeez things must be pretty bad just now if I’m getting misty-eyed over the Fenlon era!

We were staying in the Travelodge, if the pub is on the left-hand side on the way up from the bus station then aye, really can't remember the name. 🤔

I remember that game, Doyle played brilliantly that day too.
I miss having a player like Griffiths. A truly influential player who could win you a game with a moment of magic.

There’s actually a decent ‘Currie Club’ podcast with Presley and Stewart about the mad vlad days.
For being a Hearts centric episode it’s actually pretty interesting.

And when he scored a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside.

I like these recollection threads that gets others recalling where they were
LG's goal in this clip just sums up how deadly he was with a football.
He could score goals from positions others could not.
The game you refer too,PB

It wasn’t just his skill. He’s not the biggest guy in the game but I don’t think I ever saw LG bullied off the ball. We really did have him at his best for a season.

Mind for a brief spell Paul Cairney looking superb for us. Loved a nutmeg and scored at Parkhead in a 2-2 draw there. A nice respite after the previous season. All started to go downhill after a 3-1 defeat at Dens soon after this game.

It was a season that ended up being a bit of a damp squib in the league. We clung onto a top 6 place until pretty late in the day but our form didn't really deserve it and so it proved. Griffiths was so important and the collapse without him the following season was inevitable.
The 2-1 win at Tynecastle with Griffiths and Caldwell scoring was some day though. I had been out all night, pitched up at the Murrayfield Hotel early doors absolutely smashed, thought there was no way I was getting into the game, got in and enjoyed the game then just wanted to go home and crash. Totally forgot my then girlfriend, now wife, had organised birthday drinks for me so had to sit through several more hours in the pub. The hangover was evil.

It was quite a 'nice' season after what had gone before. The cup run helped bumped up the average league form into the new year, and we were pretty much screwed out of the top six by the Hearts ghost goal nonsense plus a non-penalty at Dundee United which pretty much consigned us to bottom six.
Had some really good moments, but if 0-3 v Falkirk had stayed that way we'd probably be looking back at it very differently.

Always liked Eoin Doyle but Sparky was different gravy that season
Oh if only we could afford 150k ? 😀
We spend that on Development players now

that was a decent side fenlon put together griffs free kick at tiny being the stand out of that season for me. I remember the 2-2 at parkhead aswell cairney nutmegged lustig and stuck it in for us to go 2-1 up, griff was amazing that year think he scored 28 league goals.

David Wotherspoon was also a key player in that run. For a spell he looked like he was going to emerge as a top quality attacking midfielder. Ryan McGivern was performing well at left back too.
