When you have to come to the Holy Ground for respite!

Click bait, I know, but my intentions were good. (Please don't let me be misunderstood).

Don't go on the independence or other political threads then, just as bad.

I think I’m about done not only with .net but social media altogether. What a time to be alive.

Social media is awful and is getting worse.

20 years ago if you had a **** opinion and said it to a group in public you would be called out for it or ignored maybe making you realise it’s not a good opinion to have.

These days if you post the same opinion on social media the site will show you comments and posts or even advertisements from other similar minded people and suddenly you think it’s the popular opinion to have.

People are sealing themselves off in echo chambers with likeminded other people.

I can't remember who said it or where I read it (really accurate I know) but I saw something recently that said in a couple of decades time we'll look back and be stunned at how much heed was paid to social media opinions and backlashes. It's basically a mob mentality that snowballs and creates an impression of populist opinion that companies and organisations don't really know how to react to so they panic and give in to the demands. That further emboldens the mob and they pick their next target.

In days gone by the most complaints the BBC received was habitually about blasphemy. 'Christ sake', 'Jesus Christ' etc etc received multiple times more complaints than just about anything else. That was largely driven by Priests, Vicars, Ministers etc standing in their pulpit whipping the congregations into a frenzy about the latest outrage. The congregation then toddled off home to write a letter or call Points of View whether they had seen the incident or not. Even only a decade ago comedians appearing on Live At the Apollo and the like were only permitted one 'Jesus' or similar each. I should add I don't particularly like hearing stuff like that but I don't expect the rest of the world to indulge my sensitivities. Social media and online petitions are the digital age version. A retweet, a signature etc etc build this idea that there is mass outrage, there is panic and someone is out of a job because they had a few dodgy opinions or told an offensive joke when they were 16. All i will say is thank **** camera phones and Twitter wasn't around when I was in my teens.

That extends to people being always being able to find an opinion or a 'fact' that fits their narrative. The independence debate throws this up a lot, I have friends on both sides of the debate who are constantly sharing stuff and literally 5 minutes of fact checking tells you it is selective bull****. Some of them know it and just don't care, others can't be bothered to read beyond the sensationalist headline.

I'm at the point where I'm ready to delete the lot, it's not conductive to anything positive for me anymore.

Have you ever seen Pete Townsend and Marc Riley in the same room?

I thought not.

This goes to show why the you tube channels are now croping up often better than regular news channels for real news without the click baits.

Aye, all very interesting but binning social media isn't going to improve Hibs' performances, is it? We are stinking. Sack everyone, including the fans!

You know, I started a thread along those lines on the main forum but decided that I couldn't be arsed with the inevitable grief so didn't post it.

So far, people have blamed the manager, the owner, the recruitment team, the recruitment itself, the midfield, the defence, Porteous in particular, and the coaching staff.

The only people to escape the wrath of the fans is the fans.

Oh, and the catering staff, but they're hated already.

I thought not.I did see Marc in the pub and I saw Pete at Parkheed. Neither were present at eithers appearance but the crowd in Glasgow was huge.

Pete visited Niddrie once, at least.

The problem is that there are so many people who can start a fight in an empty room. I might even include myself in that category on occasion. 😉
