View Full Version : 10 league games in and no striker has scored - perspective

We need to score more goals and we need our strikers/forward players to score more goals. No doubting it's an issue we need to address, that said we have just brought McKirdy and Kukharevych in.
Bit of perspective though...
League games played this season (based on minutes played in 90)
Nisbet 0
McGeady 0
Bojang 0 (8 minutes)
Tavares 1.5
McKirdy 1.5
Melkerson 2
Doidge 3 (not our issue now)
Kukharevych 3.75
Boyle 8
Youan 8 (played most minutes)
1 - Boyle has scored 4 and Kukharevych scored a legitimate goal last night.
2- you can't discount Boyle as not a striker and class Youan as a striker, they are both forward players
3- Only Boyle and Youan have played a significant amount of league games so far.
4- McKirdy, Melkerson being called out for
goals just now, they've barely played 2 games worth.
5- McKirdy & Kukharevych both new to the league
Certainly not as dire as all that. IMO McKirdy, Melkerson & Kukharevych will score, Nisbet and McGeady too when fit

Big Myk keeps playing the way he is playing and he will score 10+ for me, swap Youan for Mckirdy and persist with the front three of they 2 and Boyle there's plenty goals in that.

Why not just post this in the other thread created last night instead of their being two named the same!

It's not just not scoring. It's the clear chances they miss. We can't have strikers needing so many chances, just to score a goal. Kukharevych scored a perfectly good goal last night, but you can't not be scoring that one where he was clear on goal. That was awful. Youan looks like he'll never score and Melkerson doesn't seem ready yet for this level.

Kuka has finished off two chances in the last two games that were chopped off through no fault of his.

I would push Boyle up front beside Kukharevych in a front two, more central, at least for some games, and play a different system in midfield. Boyle will score more if he's closer to the box. The balls through to Boyle have to be quick and clever for the system to work, though.
I'd take Youan out and put someone in midfield who can chip in with goals. Magennis might be able to do that if he can get fit and stay fit.

Do you not think that is part of the problem tho. With the amount of chances we create, should Big Myk not be looking to hit 20 goals a season? I agree with you tho, if we can get 10 goals from him, it will be a decent return.

If he scored 20 you’d be questioning why he didn’t score 30

We are getting a lot of shots in, which is good (certainly, compared to under Maloney), but a lot of shots are the type of shots you know won't have any chance of going in, ie, predictable shots from further out or difficult angles. That's something Johnson and co have to work on.
I personally don't like the 4-2-3-1 as it means too many chances come from Kukharevych laying the ball off to midfielders/wingers who then shoot from further out, making it easier for the opposition. We need more chances to fall to our better finishers IN the box.

The OP has already clearly demonstrated that the stats are really not that bad - but never mind facts- just carry on foaming at the mouth from amidst your pish-sodden bedsheets why don't you!
