Just had what I think is an Osprey V22 aircraft fly north over pitlochry. Very distinctive profile. Anyone know what it's likely doing in Scotland. American military aircraft from what I can find.

There are currently some American Air Force stationed at RAF Lossie for training exercises.

👍 That makes sense then. Never seen one like that before.

Seen a few fly over Edinburgh during lockdown. I had assumed they were maybe coming from Royal Marine Condor in Arbroath. They are seen pretty regularly down in Wales at the Mach Loop.

When I was a kid I was out in the east Lothian countryside, Innerwick area where my grandparents lived, and a B2 flew over us. Probably a lot higher than it looked but it was as though it was whipping the tops of the trees.
There used to be loads of military aircraft down that way and in Berwickshire, which seems to have stopped in recent years.

When Leuchars was an active RAF base Torness was used as a dummy target for manoeuvres etc if I recall.

Used to see fighter jets there all the time until one crashed in the water not far from Torness maybe 20 years ago. The report at the time said the jet got in to difficulties over land and the pilot steered it towards open water before bailing. They said it crashed a couple of miles from the power station but remarkably the recovery ship was only a couple of kilometers from the nuclear plant and only a few hundred meters out to sea. Scary to think what could have happened on another day.
