Very sorry to hear this great author has died aged 70.

She’s most famous for her more accessible Wolf Hall novels but her other work is really rich and well told.

Beyond Black is a personal favourite. Really clever writing that a humorous proposition to mask a very disturbing narrative which gradually reveals itself.

She was a real genius.

He's here!

I know she wasn't blessed with the best of health but I was still quite shocked to hear this news.

Wolf Hall is a work of genius, Beyond Black was truly one of the most miserable novels ever written.

Isn't Mantel the writer that wrote a book imagining the assassination of Margaret Thatcher, based on her own feelings toward her?

I put this sad news in the dug out earlier, with a link to her Reith Lecture on the importance of History. Opens all sorts of doors to new thinking.

Yes. It was criticised by a whole load of opinionated buffoons who clearly hadn’t read it. It was in a short story collection.
