Away to Cove Rangers on loan for rest of season.

(sorry - would have put this on the transfer window thread but it seems to have disappeared)

Doesn’t leave us with much cover tbh

If was behind Darren McGregor in the pecking order then I'm not sure he was really considered cover this year anyway.

Looked the part in spells in the LC and pre season albeit he was still very raw. Think a year at Cove will do him good and he'll be ready to compete here next year.

Good move for both parties.

This seems a bad idea given injury to Rocky, Hanlon just back from injury and Porto likely to get a suspension 🤷🏻*♂️

If he can be recalled then does it not make more sense to be recalling him from somewhere he’ll (presumably) be playing fairly regularly than for him to be dropped in cold?

I don’t really get this decision but good luck to him, hopefully he will become a Hibs regular before too long.

You don’t get that playing regular football is better for development than sitting on the bench?

I would hazard a guess that Jacomo is referring to the already mentioned point that Hanlon is just back after injury, Bushiri is injured, Daz is ancient and Porto is Porto and Fish is a 19 year old loanee who has barely played around 2 first team games in his career.

We’ve brought in another young player on loan, so clearly we need cover. I don’t understand why that wouldn’t be an opportunity for one of our own, no.

We keep hearing about this ‘pathway’ for our young players but it seems to be delivering mixed results. Would keeping him here as part of the first team squad be worse than a loan to a lower league club? I’m not sure.

I think he needed to go somewhere to play football, as in my opinion he was never good enough to play for us yet.

We are slim in options, but the management must see Fish and McGregor as better options at the moment.

He needs regular games and minutes imo so good for his development.

Again, hopefully we'll avoid further injuries or suspensions in the near future as we look short in that position with Rocky's injury.

Are we still able to sign loan players..even as an 'emergency' ?? I'm guessing not.

He looked decent in the friendlies and cup games but then so did the likes of Henderson against poor oposition. He isn't ready for Premiership football in my opinion. I like him though and can see him becoming a regular in time.

I didn’t think much of him against Falkirk but then the whole team was rotten in that first half. Hopefully the loan does him good.

Probably best for him to go out on loan and we use Fish as cover. That way Cove get a good player and he gets many minutes under his belt, minutes we couldn't offer him on a regular basis. We have a young inexperienced defender from the EPL to cover us, this lad plays at the U23 level in England which we know from experience isn't the best but it should do us, especially since Fish is considered a good player at every level he has played at so far. Next season Fish will be back at Leigh Sports Village with more 1st team experience and we will have a CB with a season's worth of experience in a difficult league with a team who will probably struggle, which I think is better for his game than coasting in a team at the top of the league. Win win all round.

England Under 19 level (twice), with a grand total of two first team appearances at Man U and Stockport, so not sure that your confidence in his "considered a good player at every level he's played at" really matters.

I kind of get your point about McClelland and experience at Cove, but I would have been happier if he's stayed at Hibs and we hadn't netted Fish.

Every level he has played at, you've taken that as senior appearances for Man U and Stockport. I took it as Man U U23, U21 and every other team he has been in through the academy since he was 10 years old and yes he was considered a good player at every one of those levels he has played at. He is considered a clever ball playing CB who is comfortable in possession. The boy is 19, we can only really judge him on his youth games given his lack of senior appearances. He has just signed a new contract with Man U, he is on Ten Hag's radar by all accounts (source MEN article). Will he be any good for us? God knows, but he sounds like the sort of player our manager was after at CB. If McClelland had stayed with Hibs this season her would be on the bench every week, playing in the development team and not getting any senior experience. At Cove he will probably play every week in a tough tough league and will learn way more from that than he will from being on Hibs bench. I think Hibs have done the right thing here with both players, IMHO of course.

We've had young academy players from English clubs before and they've not really impressed (Daniel Boateng and Nathan Wood). Wood had many more caps at age group level for England and he wasn't ready to play in the SPFL at Hibs. At the moment we are a suspension or an injury away from having to play either Fish or Daz at centre back, on that basis, I am a bit concerned at McClelland going on loan. I think he may well have got his chance. Fish for a season, still seems an odd one for me in the circumstances.

Kyle also lacks that experience though, he barely played for Ranger B, usually in the squad but hardly ever got on the pitch, he played 3 games for Falkirk 2 years ago to cover an injury. I think one injury/suspension and it wouldn't make much difference who played, Fish or Kyle, both are green and both would make the mistakes associated with young players in their position. I see Kyle going on loan as a way to improve him for next season where I hope he steps up to the first team. I think Kyle will develop more than Fish will this season and for that reason alone I see it as a better move for Hibs. Of course we are not even looking at the huge elephant in the room which is the club really should have bought an experiences CB during the transfer window!

Not sure where you are getting your info from but McLelland played all the time for Rangers B. He started pretty much every game for his last 6 months there.

https://rfcyouthupdates.wordpress.com/2020/04/17/development-team-starting-11-and-substitutes-2020-2021/

It was also 8 games he played for Falkirk during his 2 month loan.

Fish signed a 5 year deal at the start of the season so I think united rate him.

Hopefully Kyle can get some first team minutes under his belt.
