Majestic performance. Porto could do with watching it back.

I'm really not trying to ruin a positive thread with digs at people, but when 'FINISHED' gets bandied about for certain players does this thread put that accusation about Paul to bed?

I'd imagine 'FINISHED' means incapable of contributing and no chance of turning in a decent performance. He might not be that well equipped to play against certain forwards as time goes on, but a fit Hanlon is absolutely fine for the majority of games in this league.

Yup. Hanlon was great.

Porteous.. it’s actually quite sad to see the way he’s playing now considering the potential he had.

Eh - what was wrong with Porteous?

Numerous brilliant passes and didn't look troubled in defence?

I thought Porteous was better today, he was letting Paul dictate the defence and apart from his usual stray pass or two I thought he was much improved than of late. Paul was much much better today, much more composed.

If Hanlon did half of the things we see and saw from Porto he'd be slaughtered

If Porto was as composed as Hanlon strolling through that game he'd be compared to Baresi 😂

One to forget for Ryan.

Welcome back Paul

Porteous created many chances, including the one that resulted in the sending-off. It was his best game in a while.

Yep, Hanlon did everything right today. Knows his limitations and plays accordingly.

There were a couple of dafty moments from Porto today, but he is the defender we use as conduit into the midfield, and he did it well today.

I’m bout sure about “numerous brilliant passes” although he did have some. Quite a lot of his passes gave the recipient way too much work to do in order to control the ball - even when they were five yards away!

Very strange post. We played against 10 men who naturally rarely threatened. Hanlon being up against a total nobody for Killie.

Hanlon was average, nothing more or less.

Almost all our chances today came from Porteous or Newell. From memory and from Porteous, I can remember the sending-off, a first-half header from Youan and the 1-2 with Boyle in the second half.

Hanlon was all right but Porteous was really good today. He even kept his cool when the big jambo laddie tried to get him sent off.

Hanlon was good today - Porto needs a rocket up his backside.

Distribution was woeful and needs to learn to bring the ball forward when he has space....was the same the other week vs rangers and why he got subbed in the end!

His passing (first half especially) was excellent

His distribution wasn’t woeful at all. Had a couple of slack passes but also had a couple of pretty decent ones such as the one where the boy got sent off

Both centre backs were fine. I’d expect our CB’s to be able to play with slipper’s on playing against Oli Shaw and a generally pretty poor killie side with 10 men for 75 minutes though.

I wish they’d have moved the ball a little quicker, particularly in the first half.

Newell was easily MOTM, what do you think Hanlon did to deserve it? You're as well saying Marshall was MOTM for all he had to do as well.

Both centre halfs were fine today. Hanlon identifies danger early and Porto typically brave on the ball.

I genuinely think there were folk crossing thier fingers for a late goal against us so they could unleash all the angry and stupid things that they'd made up in the shower.

Football is a team game. We won. Why have to ruin a positive thread by comparing Paul to Ryan. Sure, some games, they'll both be 8 out of ten, other games one will shine more than the other.

Exactly my thoughts. He also handled Laugherty very well and put him in his place when he clearly came in to wind him up. The Porto bashing is very puzzling.

Porteous having to be the bloody playmaker because the midfield won’t take the ball.

Most of our chances first half were from him playing the ball in to the channel, like the sending off. Not perfect, but don’t see how he ends up criticised today.

Thought it was noticeable today that Kenneh often doesn’t show. I don’t think it’s a deliberate thing, I think his instinct is looking after his opponent and keeping defensive shape.

He’s gonna be a work in progress basically but needs to improve at getting on the ball.

As for Campbell, he just doesn’t take up good positions to receive the ball IMO. Like a man down today

Porteous was the spare man. They man marked and let him play. It worked really well for us. Midfield were really good today.

Disagree about midfield being really good. Didn’t think we made enough use of the extra man. Newell was really good when the game got stretched but there were long spells of the second half where we had nowhere near enough control of the ball IMO.

That's everyone's fault, though. Not just the midfield. They weren't the ones losing it, and failing to kill the game.

That’s fine. I don’t think any part of the team was ‘really good’ today. Midfield included.

We played in bursts but we played against 10 for 80 minutes. Happy with the win and hope we can get on a run.

Never any doubt. He just needed to get back up to speed after his injury. Class is permanent.

Porteous was good today too, though. Don’t think he needs to watch Paul’s performance back. He can be proud of his work today.

Aye. I've heard Hibs fans hoping we got beat so we could get rid of Heckingbottom. I heard jambos want to get beat off us so they could get rid of Levein (He stayed and they ended up relegated - so thier cost benefit was spot on). I've wanted other teams to scoreb against us so my 3-1 score prediction comes in.

But if we've learned anything over the last decade or so, not just in football, but in wider society, in politics, everywhere, people will happily cut off thier noses to spite thier faces, as long as they can pretend they were right all along.

Yup no worries about Hanlon and we’ve watched him long enough to know he takes a game or two to get back into his stride after injury.

He did do an odd running away from the ball in the first half though when they had 2-1 v Cabraja right enough but apart from that was solid enough.

Hanlon was solid today, and I think it's worth pointing out that, even though I know we've only played a handful of games, our often berated defence is (again) doing pretty well in the goals conceded column. Only Celtc have conceded less so far this season.

Only the top 2 conceded less last season. Only the top 2 conceded less the season before last.:flag:
