The young hibs goalkeeper from the development team, has just been awarded Airdrie player for the month, for August, he has only conceded 2 goals in 5 games, for the League 1 side.
Tremendous effort for a very young goalkeeper.

I didn't realise he'd played that many games. That's a great record over 5 games at a competitive level. If he can get decent experience this season, I can see him maybe being Marshall's understudy next year and playing the odd game in the League Cup etc.

I might be wrong but Leeds made a decent offer for him last year.
he’s 18 👍🏻

He'll be out next number 1 when Marshall retires. He's phenomenally good for his age.

I've seen him 7 or 8 times and he's so assured, so confident and technically sound. Playing for a very decent Airdrie side so early in his development will be very good for him. I'd hope he stays there as long as possible to get games under his belt then rejoins us with a view to getting in and around the match day squad.

I'm 100% certain our long wait to produce a home grown keeper is almost at an end.

I had a look at the Airdrie twitter post announcing his award and a lot of the replies seemed to suggest his loan had ended. Hopefully we can get him tied down to a long term contract once he turns 18 in November.

Hope we get to see him as first choice. Probably a good likelihood he will be snapped up from higher up the food chain before he even becomes our number 1 unfortunately.

Thought he was an emergency loan? Is it long term now?

Good news either way. Sounds a prospect.

Do you reckon he’s currently better than Dabrowski?

Can't tell you how excited and delighted I am about Murray being our soon to be number one.

What a laddie. His work rate and dedication are off the chart. I'd give him a 10 year deal in a second.

We’ve just sent Tom Carter on an emergency loan to Ayr, so he’ll be needed as coverage in the 1st team squad now

Also went on trial at Man City and impressed.

Does seem highly rated for his age and now up to him to progress as a footballer.

Working with Marshall will no doubt help me.

He’s a big lad for his age. We’ve had some good young shot stoppers in the past but none of them have had the build to be a top level goalkeeper but Johnston certainly does. Big future ahead for him, hopefully some of it will in our first team.

Did Airdrie get beat 6-0 at home today by FC Edinburgh? Was he in goals? Maybe he wasn't.

I believe it was an emergency loan for one month only, hibs obviously thought it would be good experience for him.
He can now play in our under 18 s champions league games coming up.
I n fact he is still eligible for this years under 18 team, as he’s 17, however i suspect he will play for the development team, as he’s way above that level already.

And as I said above, he’s the 3rd goalie for the 1st team, and would’ve needed if any of the 2 get injured

Whats his contract situation at hibs ? Surely if he is as promising as suggested and a potential no1 we will have tied him down on a long deal

Had a chance encounter at a family doo with an airdrie player today (who has played at Premier League & champions league clubs coming through as a youngster)

Asked him what he & the airdrie squad had made of Murray.

His reaction - honestly, phenomenal. one of the best keepers I have ever seen in the flesh. You'll think I'm off my head but if you stick him in goals for the full Scotland national team right now I think he'd fit in.

Quite impressed then!

He can’t sign a long term deal (3+ years) until he turns 18 in November. I imagine we’ll be trying to get him died down on a 5 year deal when he does.

Maybe because his name is Johnson, not Johnstone! Hopefully an admin can change the thread title to avoid confusion :aok:
