Yes, remarkable story. Maybe he wasn't lonely though?
What I find more remarkable are that there are still as many as 240 indigenous tribes in Brazil.

What I find more remarkable are that there are still as many as 240 indigenous tribes in Brazil.
It's a pretty mad fact, even allowing for the size and nature of the Amazon rainforest.
It's being chopped down at some rate under their present political leader though so I can only see that number dropping quite rapidly.
Someone I used to work with went on a sabbatical there, they kayaked up the rivers in order to provide various types of healthcare to various groups of indigenous people in the most remote areas. She absolutely loved it but said it was quite hard to believe that so many people still exist like that in the modern world.

yeah, that was my (badly made) point about it being heartbreaking, indigenous people being wiped off the face of the earth
