St Mirren have decided to only give the OF one stand behind the goals this season (quite right imo) however, as a result they are asking their own fans to pay £30 each to make up the losses.
Yes its voluntary and nobody is obliged to do it but I think thats absolute insanity. Cut the allocation fine, but expecting their own fans to cover the loses? Thats mental! Imagine the bedlam if Hibs decided to do that. RG would be tarred and feathered.

It was the fans that pushed for the reduction and the key word is voluntary. 300 already paid, good on them

So 10 fans have paid £30, they'll need about 5000 fans to pay £30 to cover the costs, and that would only cover 1 game v either of the OF.

Does he not mean 300 people have already paid?

Funny how someone who creams themselves at Hearts supporters helping their club slags another club off for asking their fans to contribute £30.
Just saying like.

I wouldn't have thought they would be missing out on much at all. Their away stand holds 1.6k, that means they only need 6.4k home fans to sell out....would have thought St Mirren could manage that?

They've had an ok start to the season by their standards to be fair. They got a great result on Saturday. Might encourage a few more to come back.

I'd like to think that we have big enough fan base to be able to cut the allocation of the OF and not have to ask fans to pay for the loss of income.

Probably only 3 games against the old firm. They have not been in the top 6 in ages. Means that they only need 4.8k fans in a normal season.

You've just been taken in by a click-bait tweet that has been properly covered by St Mirren fans.
Also regarding RG and us doing anything similar, its a completely different situation. We have an away end that can be fully designated to away supporters 99.99% of the time. St Mirren on the other hand were moving supporters from their season ticket seats to a different stand 3-4 times per season to accommodate 2 away fanbases that no-one likes. Not comparable in the slightest.
Good on St Mirren for trying.

Yeah well done St Mirren
Dundee Utd and Kilmarnock have reduced their allocations this season as well

Didn't Killie also reduce the OF allocation by only giving them one stand behind the goals instead if two?

Quite possibly the most tin pot thing in Scottish football is seeing old firm fans taking up 2/3 sides of a stadium.

Remember St Johnstone doing that as well. Not sure if they still are. About time these clubs stopped leeching off the old firm. I applaud St Mirren, Hearts, Killie or anyone else who reduce their allocation. Would love to see us do the same.

To be fair to livi the 3 stands they give them are empty, so be aswell filling the seats. St Johnstone is strange as like other clubs have done they have to move their own fans to the main stand so the OF can get 3 stands.
Only way we'll cut their allocation at Easter Road is by growing the fanbase and selling out the home ends first. Hopefully its part of the plan but could be a decade or two away.... It's a pain having to listen to the ****s but equally very enjoyable seeing the 4000 reduced to a 1500 as soon as Josh smashed it into the net :flag:

I’d be happy to do the same if the seats were being sold to Hibs fans. If they’re lying empty though I’m not so sure.

Yepp, and there was footage of rangers fans in the home end as well a couple of weeks back.

The fans are the owners, they asked for it and voted for it to happen. There’s the donation option but also the chance to pay the money for a ticket that is then donated to a local charity or community group.
They used to move the season ticket holders behind that goal for the Celtic/Rangers games and the majority of the season ticket holders then didn’t take up the option to move. This way there’s more chance that most of them do go to these games.
It’s 1500 Celtic or Rangers fans they’re missing out on and I’d be surprised if they don’t see home attendances improve for these games

Some of those clubs used to give them more than 1 stand, which is pretty tinpot.
We have a much larger stadium than all of those clubs mentioned, so can house all the Hibs fans that want to attend in the 3 home stands.
If there comes a time when we need the extra capacity, then yes, reduce it - but right now that would seem incredibly stupid financially.

Absolutely. Clubs already struggle financially and I'll bet the same people proposing cutting away fan allocations will be the same ones complaining about clubs not spending enough on players.
Financial madness - Hibs tried it once (I'm sure v Rangers)- it was a total failure financially and was rightly binned immediately after.
Same nonsense as cutting ticket prices 🙄

Can you share the figures from when we tried it? Would be interesting to see this total failure.
Perhaps some fans value taking their family to a football match, over sectarian bigots driving them away?
Surely a safer/better environment is more important than a few quid?

Hibs have done it more than once and it’s been mixed.
Did it against Rangers for the 5-5 game and it was completely sold out.
Did it in a Playoff game against Rangers at the end of the first Championship season and it wasn’t anywhere near full but the right thing to do after Rangers denied us an increased allocation for the first leg despite ibrox being nowhere near full.
Did it against Celtic and we didn’t sell out but we did win 2-0.

I was in the south stand for the 5-5, right next to the hun hordes. One of my favourite ever games and feeling like we were in all 4 sides made it better somehow.

Don't know about safer or bigots driving people away. We'll get 12-14000 average for non-OF games & there's no bigots or safety issues there.
I don't have figures and I'm not going to go looking but the fact it hasn't been repeated tells you all you need to know about what Hibs thought of it financially.

We’ve done it more than once so it has been repeated.
Although it does make sense to only do it if we have the demand. That said, interesting that we’ve not lost a game when we have done it.

So far as Hibs are concerned we have a stand that we rarely need for the vast majority of games because the three others can comfortably contain our home support. For so long as that remains the case it just wouldn't make sense to cut the uglies allocation ... in the end 4000 of them paying £30 a pop equates to £120,000 .... three times a season that's a not to be sniffed at £360,000
If, hopefully when, the demand for tickets from our own supporters on a regular basis means we can cut their allocation then absolutely do it. As it is it's not all that unusual in the UK for a whole stand to be allocated to away supporters, what annoys fans of the likes of St Mirren and Killie is their own fans being moved to accommodate them .... that should never be tolerated at Easter Road ..... ever.

True but not since 2018 & before Ron Gordon took over.
It would be great if we had demand to be able to cut their allocation but that would take many successful seasons to achieve.

The comments about St Mirren reducing celtics allocation are comedy gold. One guy wants Celtic away games moved to Hampden so more fans can build up a history to make them eligible for more away games.
